OT: American Politics

They already do. There' magnificent machinery you should acquaint yourself with.

Just saying I was lurking on in this thread from the Habs board as I found it informative on this election. Looks like the populist party is somehow the one backed by the tech-billionaires now thanks to social media.
And yet the Harris campaign is the one that wasted 1 billion dollars on this election.

So everyone in this thread celebrating a Kamala landslide victory for the last several months, including within the last 24 hours, now have more predictions to peddle?

I told you all that people aren’t happy with the way things are going in the country, and in my city. But a bunch of Canadians living in Canada knew better. Lost in the national coverage is LA voting out its shitty DA and voting in a new DA that actually thinks crime should be punished. Maybe we had one too many daily home invasions, I don’t know.

Unfortunately, Kamala was a know nothing pretender, literally couldn’t articulate one policy if she wasn’t reading off a teleprompter, and left a lot to be desired. She didn’t get even 1% of the vote in the dem primaries, but was expected to get half the country to rush out to vote for her in the general election? You all drank the kool aid poured into your cups by Hollywood and CNN. That’s just not the reality here, and it has nothing to do with racism or chauvinism.

The Israel issue was also a big deal. Almost every Jew I know had zero faith or belief that she was going to be good for Israel. Almost every staunch democrat Jewish voter I know went with Trump this time just for that one issue alone.

I also don’t think anyone trusted her and Walz with the economy. That unrealized capital gains tax she wanted put shivers down the spines here, not just because of its own potential disastrous impact, but what else might be coming from them next.

Is a lunatic entering office now? Most definitely. But I’m both a believer that nothing really ever changes, and an optimist who thinks that everything will be okay. All these predictions here betting against America because of this election will be wrong. As Buffett always says, he would never bet against the US and never has. I’m sure it’ll be four years of attempted impeachments and such, and lots of crazy controversial nonsense that will come out of his mouth, but in the end, maybe some policies that come out of it will be good. And in four years, we’ll do it all over again.

It's cool though, Elon has a robot he's developing that should be able to do the work.

A few big government contracts and he'll have them out there picking apples by early 2026 at the latest.

Judging where the US electorate is a lot harder than predicting the impact of 25% tariffs and a 2nd Trump tax cut for the wealthy mate.

I mean, even the most hopeful of us was only off by 2-3% in election predictions. They're just a very consequential 2-3 points.

Because every candidate fulfills their campaign promises.

I’m not holding my breath waiting to see if they abolish the federal tax code.

Please take my name out yo fucking mouth. I did not do such a thing despite the backlash that came along with it.

But yes, the rest of your post is mostly true. And I agree that we'll all be fine in the end.

This is where we start to feel the impacts of the stupidity. We allow a lot of the FDA's work to do the heavy lifting on what gets approved here for use. Not everything mind you but we have signed agreements with the FDA signifying that the two countries have "similar food safety systems". Similar arrangements with drugs as well. We're going to have a choice to make if this goes down. Either see our safety standards go down across the board, negatively impacting public health, or start requiring additional testing here if the FDA scraps a bunch of their existing safety regs.

You're welcome in advance.

Eh, even just the 2nd tax cut in concert with any level of international flight from the US dollar would be ugly economically for the US.

There's a reason why betting against the US never worked. Because it was THE nation that stood for the rule of law above all else.

But now you guys just elected a King, and there's no safeguards left to stop him.

Then why'd the black vote like him more?
Because they're stupid. Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups. Anyone who isn't white who voted for Trump was voting against themselves and Trump will reward their loyalty by telling them that they are the enemy within and they need to be dealt with.

The left isn't losing the information war, they've lost it. The results out of Missouri speak ridiculous volumes there. Prop votes pass a bunch of democrat policies, democrats get smashed at the ballot box. The cognitive dissonance is amazing to see.

The left badly needs to rebuild their information/media capacity and aim it at the adversary for a fucking change.

Honestly, he doesn't. The risk with trump is how chaotic everything is and how easily he normalizes crazy shit. I think Vance is too conventional for people to buy that and he'll be held to normal standards by American society once trump is gone.
Vance has a much better idea of how to pull and abuse the levers of power to implement his policy goals than Trump, IMO
