Such a great man.Jimmy Carter passed away
Very underrated President. Probably the best since FDR so of course he was turfed out of office after one term and forgotten because America is determined never to have nice things.
Speaking of Iran's hostages, Carter is disliked widely over there. He was the president on whose watch the monarchy was overthrown in favour of the current regime.Carter was a victim of one of the multiple occasions where Republicans have literally committed treason in an attempt to engineer a Presidential election win.
Ronnie Raygun & co working behind Carter’s back to ensure Iran wouldn’t release the hostages before Ronnie became POTUS. Kissinger, Nixon & co going behind LBJ’s back to the South Vietnamese to derail peace talks (since Nixon was running as the “peace” candidate against Humphrey). And, of course, Donnie’s literal violent coup attempt.
So you supported the Shah?Yup. All the problems with Iran today can basically be traced back to that. Might've been a good guy, but he was a crap President.
As much as a 1 year old could before his death. So you supported the Shah?
Carter didn't install the Shah, that was Ike and the CIA (with Stormin' Norman Schwartzkoff's father leading the way) who had the democratically elected government overthrown because they were going to nationalize their oil industry. All Carter did was allow the Shah to enter the US for medical treatment when he was dying. Thats what caused the US embassy to be targeted.Yup. At the time, the Shah was one of the most (probably the most) educated, modern, cultured, and tolerant rulers in that entire region. He embraced all the US ideals that the Western nations embraced. He was a friend to the Jews. This you?

So no, not all the problems with Iran can be traced back to Carter. They go further back to the 50's when the US just couldn't stay out of other countries' business. Yet another example of how the country that symbolized democracy had democracies overthrown in order to install fascist puppet governments friendly to US corporations.
The CIA also helpfully trained the Shah's secret police, Savac, how to torture and terrorize their own citizens so that the Shah could hang on to power. But again, all this happened long before Carter ever became President. Again it was a Democrat President inheriting a Republican mess.
