OT: American Politics

It's too far along to make a difference for me now, but having them essentially be one would've saved me so much grief and money on immigration stuff, the currency exchange has killed at different points for different reasons, and so on. Travel to Canada should be like travel to anywhere in the US. I do wish they'd align better.

We're already too influenced by the US as is but having a neighbour 10x your economic and cultural weight is what it is.

No one is talking about colonization. A marriage of equa....eh, neighbors.

Well, Trump is talking about colonization, and your second bit touches on the problem. There is no way to meet as equals in any sort of deeper integration process, which makes it a bad idea for Canada.

Honestly makes more sense for Canada to try to join the EU than to move towards wherever the fuck it is the US thinks it's going these days.

You sound like Count now.

"Fuck Canadian sovereignty as long as it makes my life just a little bit more convenient."

I mean, is France any less France or Greece any less Greece for being in the EU?

Significant difference when it's a collection of nations together. If Greece has a disagreement with France on policy, they can go to other member nations and create coalitions to find a democratic solution. How do you think a policy disagreement would go between Canada and the US in your little scenario?

Policy shmolicy.

Make the currency the same, immigration more sensible, and travel easier.

That's my dream NA version of the EU.

You're saying you don't want any of those three things, not to mention all of them?

Correct. I don't want to be a vassal state. This would be fundamentally different than the EU member nation relationships are. Our immigration needs and problems are different than those of the US and shouldn't be whatever the fuck Trump thinks "sensible" is. Also, travel between the two is crazy fucking easy. Get a nexus card to skip the lines, an amex for lounge access and travel is cake.
