The US and Canada could not form an "EU" without Canada being dominated within it. The US would not give us equal say on how anything was run. The EU works as it does because power within the group is multi polar and the EU itself is set up to not allow the larger nations to dictate to the smaller nations. Smaller nations have veto power on all sorts of shit.

I'm aware of these things. As I said, I made the fucking mistake of saying I'd like to see a certain fantasy version of the EU, one that would really only have three types of added alignment/consolidation, and not whatever current insanity Trump is proposing.

But I'm done. I've asked Habsy to block me out of these threads. I can't stand this shit and am constantly killing myself inside over why the fuck I spend any time on this damn site. It's pure aggravation, so I don't want to have any access to it.

Trump does not deal in good faith and can never be trusted to honor his commitments or his agreements.

So whatever "deal" Trump would come up with regarding any sort of union, economic or otherwise, would be undercut by the certainty that he will renege on it, tear it up, or otherwise ignore it the first time adhering to it becomes inconvenient for him.

This isn't a merger you're thinking of, this would be a hostile takeover.

For God's sake just shut up while you still have a thread of credibility left.

I mean, he is a Canadian who decided to move to the US to become an American. Who also supports (or at the very least, doesn’t mind) Trump.

And who is on record as stating that he’s fine with a totalitarian/authoritarian government replacing his democratic one as long as it’s personally good for him.

So I can see why someone with those viewpoints wouldn’t give two shits about Canadian sovereignty.

But it is baffling that he’s seemingly incapable of understanding why anyone else would care, or why a message board full of Canadians living in Canada would be particularly hostile to his “Americanada” proposals when America’s fascist president-elect has spent today and the past few weeks talking about annexing our country.

Dude, you want no customs when entering our countries. So what would stop people from bringing all those legal AR-15s into Canada?

You also want to share American Currency. Now maybe you don't know monetary policy, but like the first thing anybody learns is that a strong dollar is good for some industries and a weak dollar is good for others. I will let you figure out if Canada's and America's economies are aligned that way.

All through my life, people have always wondered what makes a Canadian/culture. And the answer is always "Not American".

But to be fair, your Blue States should think about becoming "Canadian". We could use some more Provenances.

It's Count logic. He sees our annexation as "inevitable" so we just need to "accept that Trump is our daddy".

I think it’s different, actually.

Everything with Count is rooted in him being a massive crybaby pisspants who’s throwing a years-long temper tantrum over the fact that the Canadian government told him to wear a mask for a little while. And, as part of his temper tantrum, he’d be happy to see Canada burned to the ground.

Whereas LOF’s desire to see Canada absorbed into the US is mostly just rooted in naïveté, indifference to Canada and the advancement of his own narrow personal interests.
 
And he needs Habsy to block his access to the thread because he hasn't got enough self-control to just stay away on his own? How fucking weak can one person get?

And he's apparently a lawyer, someone who is paid to be an advocate. But at the first sign of adversity he takes his toys and goes home? If the homework he does on behalf of his clients is as shoddy as his research on this and other topics about which he claims to be current, then he must be the worst prepared lawyer in Southern California.

True, but in both cases it comes down to selfishness, which is a hallmark of right wing ideology.

The entire purpose of right wing philosophy is to get people to not care about anyone else but themselves. "Why should I have to pay taxes to support the public school system? Just privatize it so only people with kids pay for it." And they use the same argument for privatizing healthcare and anything else that the state currently provides because:

A) they have money and privilege already so they'll always be fine, and
B) trips to Nashville or Disneyworld at par
