Am I the only one who finds Jon deeply disappointing these days? I get that his role is as the court jester, and I'm not expecting him to lead the charge to protect democracy, but he's really fallen prey to a lot of the brain rot that has gotten America to where it is, on the verge of flat out no longer being a democracy. Complains about the "optics" behind Biden pardoning his entire family, treating that as part of the problem of the moment we're in, without acknowledging why it's entirely necessary. Seems roughly as interested in Biden "creating a snake sucking it's own dick cycle of no accountability" as he is about it actually being fucking necessary to protect random members of his family from political witch hunts and persecution. What's the concern Jon? That Biden doing this gives Trump the ability to do the same? Was a norm harmed yesterday? Fucking clownshoes.

I was pretty excited about him coming back and felt like he had a really good opportuntiy to speak the truth of the moment but he spent the first half of election pumping "Biden old", the second half not particularly effectively communicating the gravity of the decision the country was facing, and now spends the last seconds of the process leaning into the same "corrupt Biden family" bullshit that has been on repeat on Fox for 4 years, just in a nicer, gentler way.

Yep. I get that it wasn't their job to defend Biden either. Biden was fucking old. But it really did feel at the time like it was a bunch of people who just didn't get what kind of a moment they were in, and making fun of the shape the lifeboat was in is a good way for everyone to end up drowning.

The Republicans super power is unity. It doesn't matter what abject bullshit they're required to support, they do it for the sake of winning. The fractured left forgot that winning with some or most of your morals and ideas intact was better than losing to someone who hates you for those morals and ideas.

He's a bit hit or miss. It's good that he's not just a shill, that he will hit the democrats when they are being dumb. Which can be good so he's not just being as partisan as Fox. But there are times when he needs to be partisan, and he doesn't. He's better than the other Daily Show segments that I've caught, which are all either super tame, or almost go for like an Onion-style over the top parody of things. But yeah, he's not the saviour of late night that people expected.

It's just a mis read of the room and moment though. Falling for the same trap all of the other media idiots did. He is 100% a shill in the eyes of the people opposed to him. Anyone who doesn't deep throat their propaganda pipeline is a democrat shill to them. Americans are in a situation right now where the terms of dispute have been set for them by the maga crowd, and any energy wasted trying to virtue signal to the people who hate them is wasted. It was time for everyone on the American centre and left to dig in and swing, and they spent half of their energy swinging at each other.

I honestly and sincerely hope that every single Latino who voted for Trump has someone close to them that they care deeply about rounded up by Trump’s Gestapo. And/or are rounded up themselves.
