OT: American Politics

Trump is firing the board of the Kennedy Centre and naming himself the new Chairman. Get ready for the Kennedy Centre honors Kid Rock and Jon Voight.
This is garbage, of course, but it's not fatal to democracy, just good taste. We're talking about a guy who gave the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh so this definitely tracks.

But this compared to all the actual fascism? Not on my radar.

The best/only shot at rolling any of this back any time soon is for large enough direct action protests to force Trump to push for military intervention before he's able to gut military leadership and have them publicly decline unconstitutional orders. The US Military is the only institution with the ability to withstand an unrestrained executive branch.

To (maybe....arguably) quote Andrew Jackson: "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it". There's always been a tacit understanding that power exists through the threat of violence in the US system. Without enforcement, the rest is just words. Direct public action taken by a small percentage can bring the whole thing to it's fucking knees. Police are only capable of so much, shit even a major city only has 10-20K police officers and you obviously can't field all of them to control large scale protesting. Large protests are probably inevitable, but if those protest movements arrive after Trump has cleaned out the generals and installed his own people, we're going to have a seriously historic moment on our hands that I think goes the wrong way and makes Kent State look minor in comparison.
