It will get challenged, it will go to SCOTUS, and SCOTUS will change their intrepretation of 2A to state that the right to bear arms is only guaranteed if you're part of a "well regulated militia", and the Trump militias will of course be the only militias that qualify.

They're not going to go after guns, they're going to go after liberals guns.

I don't see what putting Patel in charge of both departments would be for otherwise.

I do agree that sooner than later, they’re going to form their official equivalent of the Brownshirts.

But a blanket effort to seize the guns of anyone who’s not a member of Trump’s Brownshirts seems fraught with too much risk that they’ll piss off extreme right-wing Libertarian 2A enthusiasts that may be fans of Trump, but would want no part of having to sign up with an official government-affiliated militia to get to keep their guns.

Once he has the military leadership sorted, I don't think it's a big risk for him. I mean, we all get that the idea at the end of this process is a police state, right? You can't have a police state with 100's of millions of guns floating around out there in the hands of people that disagree with your rule.
 
Could happen eventually. They’re probably better off boiling the frog a bit more slowly here though and hoping the general populace is still too dumb to notice it’s heading that way,

A whole lot of boiling has happened in a month. Fwiw, I'm not guessing that it happens soon. He still hasn't solidified his hold on the military. When that's done and over though, they'll start moving on to other potential threats.

they've been selling 2A for decades though, and the pushback of "well-regulated militia!" has generally been the counter-argument from the left. Their argument has always been fuck that, try and pry it out of my cold dead hands. Even though a lot of them are morons, it's a huge part of their identity, and there are millions of people who would not accept it.

That same super freedom bros 40% of the country is currently deep throating pending authoritarianism without blinking. Didn't flinch at the idea of the 14th ammendment being altered, etc. As long as they're given someone to hate and told that their guns are still protected, they'll get in line.

On ME’s side of the argument, they also spent decades screeching about “States rights”…and now fully support a POTUS who is bluntly threatening Governors to obey his executive orders like they’re Kingly decrees. They don’t actually believe in anything and are not concerned at all about hypocrisy.

Still though, I’m not convinced that they’ll fuck with the 2A. I don’t really see the need. They can afford to go after Liberals who vigorously oppose the regime and own guns on a piecemeal basis. Especially if the military, police and federal law enforcement have been co-opted.

I might be making too much of Patel being put in charge of the ATF in addition to the FBI. It feels very much like a coming consolidation of federal police forces. Pretty much every authoritarian regime has a core police force run by heavy loyalists.

It could just be that the ATF is going to be drowned in the tub in accordance with the project 2025 desire for guns basically being everywhere in American society. But I still struggle with that from a historic standpoint when you look at authoritarians.

I was just thinking they are setting Elon up to be arrested whenever they feel like. Go from Elon having power cause of his money to let him take money illegally and do illegal shit, so they can either blackmail or crush him when it suits them.
