OT: American Politics

The tweet is misleading because the layoffs are unrelated to the Canadian market access issue. But they did lay off hundreds of employees because sales have been down for 2 years.

yup

Stories can be accurate but still ripe for misuse

It's a misquote. He never said that Canada makes up 1% of JD sales, he said Canada made up 1% of Brown-Forman sales. The international parent company that owns JD.

Considering that they own 8 scotch or whiskey brands, 3 tequilas, and a bucket more brands, yeah that tracks. They don't own (m)any brands aside from JD that are popular in Canada.

Also fwiw, but only 10.4% of whiskey sold in Canada last year was American. So the state of Kentucky is shitting themselves over 1/10th of our whiskey spend. JD, Jim Beam, Woodford, Maker's Mark, Wild Turkey all scrapping for that market share. After a quick look at the BF 2024 year end, I'm going to rough math and say that we represent about 4-5% of total JD sales, but that JD is probably only 10% of total bourbon sales in Canada. I can't find the sales data, but a few sources all seem to suggest Maker's Mark was the best selling bourbon in Canada by a fair bit.

Yeah, "ground charge" ain't gonna do shit for that part of the Valley when summer rolls around. Friant Kern Canal will be helpful, but we could have done without the fucking dam releases. Water management in that part of the world isn't something you do with whimsy; just a bit above "Dotard's" pay grade. Like most things that require thought.
