OT: American Politics

I'm not convinced that the "Third Way" corporate democrats don't see the Bernie-AOC democrats as a bigger threat to them than Trump is.

The corporate dems may not want to pay more taxes, but they still want a functioning economy and competent leadership

They seem pretty convinced that if they just wait this out, they'll get some power back at the midterms and then starve him out.

They seem to be quite happy letting Trump "be the story" and break things.

Maybe they were two weeks ago but if things go exponentially worse (a definite possibility) there will be too much things breaking….

With this Trump admin, the midterms might as well be a decade away

I'm deeply cynical on all things mainstream Dem these days. I'm not convinced that Trump won't dummy social security and the corporate dems won't be popping champagne behind closed doors because this means a bump at the mid terms, while expressing performative anger in front of the cameras.

But yeah, the mid terms may as well not exist they're so far away. I'm fully expecting Trump to go after elections long before the mid terms to stack the deck hard if not eliminate them altogether. You don't do all of this authoritarian shit to meekly give away a bunch of power to the democrats because you lost in the mid terms.

I believe this.

But also, it’s so fucking stupid.

It’s another form of the American exceptionalism they all deeply believe in. We saw it from the Biden admin for four years.

They know it’s possible for the rule of law to collapse, and for a democracy to turn into a totalitarian dictatorship. But all the way down to the core of their beings, they believe “it can’t happen here”, and that their system, which is the best in the world, will hold.

If the Dems don't reimagine themselves in a hurry, America is a 1 party state and none of this stuff matters.
It already doesn't matter. It mattered last November. America handled it badly and we are where we are now. There isn't going to be a non-violent method of removing Trump from office going forward. Watch the mid terms. I predict that MAGA will gain seats, not lose them. Then we will know for sure that democracy is over.
