OT: American Politics

I think Dems in heavy blue counties show up for a Bernie or Warren, personally. They're going to run up those margins in Dem strongholds and the Rs aren't going to have the numbers in the rural counties to make it up. Even a slight uptick on voter turnout in Wayne County, MI would've turned the state blue.

That's my prediction. No problem admitting if I end up being wrong.

Trying to find some data on this. Will take time.

Here's one poll from CNN ... dems handling of impeachment

Dems: 78% approve, 19% disapprove, 10% dk
Repubs: 7% approve, 90% disapprove, 2% dk
Indep: 38% approve, 50% disapprove, 12% dk

This suggests that dems are significantly less passionate about it (almost 30% disapprove or dk) than repubs (near universal disapproval). Independents, the largest voting block, is unimpressed.

Always remember that there are more self identified dems than pubs, and that a large segment of so called indies are tea party wannabe libertarian types.

Pelosi can technically hold the impeachment up indefinitely. Anyone think she may be thinking a Democrat Senate in 2020 would be preferable?

Yeah I know, tinfoil hat stuff but the GOP did hold up Garland, not too far fetched if you think about it.

This is the thing. Gop held up Garland for no reason at all other than pure partisanship.

Pelosi is holding this up for an actual perfect and important reason - because mitch literally came out and said it would be a sham non-trial and he wouldn't even try to do his job.

And mitch is celebrated for his move....but Pelosi is going to be demonized for this? Come on. That's craycray.

In the end for me this is all about putting the gop on trial, not trump.

Trump is so obviously intrinsically guilty of everything and everyone even his fans know it - so this is all about whether the gop can be held to account or not.

Anyone got a stream for tonight's debate?

I mean, McConnell is going to do the minimum possible before going to a vote, whether it happens now or happens later. The timing is irrelevant ... this is all kabuki theatre at this point anyway. The Senate is going to squash the indictment along party lines, which has been patently obvious from the start. Anybody expecting otherwise is truly kidding themselves.

It's not about stopping them.

It's about exposing them.

Regardless if there's impeachable offenses with the Ukraine stuff, it will galvanize Trump's support because it's clearly an attempt to after him for the Russia fever dream after Mueller came up empty.

Right now polls say 50% of voters are motivated by a purely anti-trump vote, and 35% by a pure pro-trump vote.

Really? I think it’s pretty clear where I stand.

The only witness with first hand knowledge is Sondland. The hearings were a sham, just like it will be in the Senate. Under their articles you could impeach every president, ever.

This is not enough for impeachment. That’s my opinion anyway. I get you’re a part of the other half that disagrees and that’s fine. I need more than the bare minimum when it comes to impeachment.
Vindland was on the call he's not a firathand witness???

There are no other " first hand witnesses " due to the President. Sorry I refuse to reward any President that won't give anything to Congress.

Imagine a future Democratic President that gives Nepal 2 nukes . It leaks but they don't cooperate at all I guess that'd be cool.

Your standard is nice in theory terrible in reality.

look if the President was withholding specific individuals or comments about. He may not be committing Obstruction of Congress
