OT: American Politics

Because those are the same as burning down someone’s store, or beating them in the street to steal their stuff. Not sure why you didn’t include parking tickets, a similarly heinous offense.

Speeding is considered a contributing cause to 26% of traffic fatalities. Far more serious to public health than smashing windows and stealing TV's.

But that's besides the point. The rule of law is important. The solution to protests/rioting caused by police brutality isn't more police brutality. Punishments should fit crimes, etc, etc, etc. I really shouldn't need to have this conversation with a bar-certified lawyer.

We don't get to subjectively determine that certain crimes need police vigilanteism and which don't. That's part of what got the US here in the first place.

Stealing from and destroying private businesses isn’t the response though.

out of curiousity...what is the response? I'm obviously not pro looting and burning, but what hasn't been tried at this point? They've protested (and "polite" society always seems to have a problem with how they do it), they came out in record numbers to elect a black president, only to have white people recoil 8 years later and elect the most singularly useless public figure in modern human history to try to expunge the memory of a (half) black man in the big chair.

What is the acceptable response here that would bring change?

I've been thinking about this a lot. How/when does this end? A lot of the aggressive tactics we've been seeing have been like gasoline. They need to find a way to deescalate this.

I’m not talking about vigilanteism.

I’m talking about any sympathy whatsoever for these animals who are fucking up the world during a pandemic. If some fuck has his arm broken in the process of being apprehended by the cops, cry me a fucking river on the way to prison.

Give me a motherfucking break.

You think they’re breaking into Gucci on Rodeo Drive because they give a rat’s ass about George Floyd?? They care more about Pink Floyd than George Floyd. For fuck sake, this “what else are they supposed to do” crap is the biggest crock of shit ever.

Let's not pretend that the looters are anything but an extreme minority getting outsized screen time bud.

No, you're clearly talking about something else right here:

I’m okay with the cops breaking the arms and legs of these looters.

If you would like to retract that batshit insane statement and replace it with what you've stated after I responded, feel free. But your initial statement was disgusting, made worse by your chosen profession.

So what? Who’s talking about the peaceful protesters? I’m talking about the looters who are In the thousands trying to burn down all the major cities in the country. So don’t mix the two up. They should fuck these people up in a way that they don’t ever forget.

Shareholder equity based on shitty branded sweatshop merchandise > physical violence

It’s entirely consistent with what I said. I am absolutely fine with legs and arms being broken in the process of putting down this chaos.

IMO, this is encompassing way more than the brutal Floyd murder at this point -- people of all stripes are getting their licks in. Just like COVID is accelerating our digital disruption, being locked up has also magnified all types of despair, resentment and hopelessness of being left behind.

And the orange guy in charge has helped drastically lower the bar to what constitutes acceptable behaviour.

You're part of the problem bud

I’ll clarify further to erase any doubt. If it’s between letting one of these arsonists get away or shooting them in the fucking knee to stop them, fire away.
