OT: American Politics

Does seem like you're way more outraged about property than lives tho.

There’s no connection, man. That’s the problem.

Since all you care about is black lives obviously, I guess you’re okay with sex trafficking, serial killing, and tax fraud. Because you can’t be outraged by more than one thing at the same time.

But burning down the store of an immigrant in LA who just spent his life savings to open said store - which actually fucking happened - is not worthy of outrage because a dirty cop murdered a black man in Minnesota (and was already arrested and charged with murder the day before).

As someone said, if you have 10 bad cops and a 1000 good cops but those 1000 good cops do nothing about the 10 bad cops, you have 1010 bad cops.

The issue isn't that there are bad cops. The issue is the bad cops are not punished. They are just shuffled around like the Catholic church shuffles around pedophile priests.

Too simple. It's never as easy as that.

Due process is there for a reason.

Like I said, it’s easy to sit in Woodbridge with a bowl of popcorn and say it’s okay for people’s lives to burn down. You’d all have a very different view if it was your lives and property. There’s no doubt about that.
Nobody thinks it's ok. This is where you lose everyone. It's not black and white, it's very grey.

Fuck everyone then. Because it’s not grey. It’s black and white. The cop murdered the guy and should and will receive punishment. Burning down and looting private property has no justification, has no connection, makes no statement other than there’s a contingency of society that is waiting for any reason to get out there and commit crimes.

But will he? And was he going to even get suspended before the protests happened? Doubt it. That's the issue and if you don't see that, you're also part of the problem.

I said previously, that the gross injustice needed to be rectified. And I understood burning down the police station in Minnesota and some of the actions that had a direct connection to the injustice. He may not have been arrested without it. But he was. And then looters hit the streets in the major cities to run off with all the computers, luxury bags, and jewelry they could carry, and set fire to buildings just for fun. If any of you think any of that is okay or has any rational link to the murder, you’re disturbingly detached from reality and can’t or won’t put yourselves in the shoes of the innocent people who live in cities thrown into mayhem and who have had their livelihoods taken from them in the middle of a pandemic.

Wait you think this is about one dead guy

Wait you think this is about one dead guy

That was the straw that broke the back, of course. But even if it's ten thousand dead guys, this is not an acceptable response.

I can't believe any of this is being debated. If you guys think it's okay to bring down cities with violent protests because some - and certainly a small percentage - of America's police forces are racist, then you're out of your minds.

Until last night, I really didn't think there was that much scum out there willing to cause the damage they did (which is only a small fraction of what they wanted to do). It's scary to think normal people live among so many animals who might want to slit their throats just for fun. I knew there were some here and there that one might encounter, but the sheer number of degenerates out there trying to burn down the world shocked me. And I'm equally shocked that no one here is concerned too much about it and even defending the behavior. It's really fucking unreal.

Yep. It pretty much took BURNING DOWN A POLICE STATION to get this guy even charged. Should a protest need to be organized when this happens again next week for justice? The establishment doesn't like or respect peaceful protests by black people so I guess you gotta try something else to get results.

uhhh....jesus christ.

what the hell kind of lawyer are you, anyway? not criminal, that's for damn sure.

Sorry, I'm just a poor shlub that you look down upon from your ivory tower. No home ownership here.

You don't have to own anything to know this is wrong. And maybe the fact that most of you probably don't and may not expect to is why you're feeling kinda warm and fuzzy and enjoying what you saw unfold on television.
