OT: American Politics

I mean you guys are both right. Rogan isn’t and won’t be cancelled. His audience is too large and his show is too valuable for that.

but you also can’t deny that people are trying to force their will on Spotify to get them to cancel him. Just because it won’t work doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. It was literally Uncle Neil’s ultimatum.

And it’s been going on forever it just used to be only lame mother that thought South Park and Eminem was ruining their kids.

but it’s just a very vocal minority. That’s why nothing actually gets cancelled.

i think he is saying it is fine to kill people and people should not have a say in these matters - not with their dollars anyway
It's absurd to want to crucify Joe Rogan as if he's the only source of vaccine misinformation. Most of his shows are about MMA and interviewing Jewel for fuck sakes.

Meanwhile Trump, DeathSantis, Scott Atlas (I could add a hundred names here, hundreds of doctors, hundreds of podcasts) have no consequences even though their actual jobs were to save people, not kill them. If we're going to listen to an angry mob, I suggest we start there.

I mean sure, Governor of Texas (one example of many) refused to implement mask mandates pre-vaccine during waves LITERALLY killing people, but forget about him, lets cancel someone for chatting with Robert Malone once instead. What a brilliant fucking idea.

He's not being burned? He has his same job, same pay, and same ability to access his podcast. He's quite literally unaffected by this financially, or in the talking points he's allowed to broach.
i dunno

i kinda hope he self immolates

Also I think the attention Rogan gets is purely based on his popularity. People hate listen to pull clips to anger people, but 99% of the show is harmless.

Like Candace Owens, Jordan Peterson, Gavin macginnis, Dave Rubin, everyone has a podcast on Spotify. Way more crazy stuff gets said on there than on JRE.

I can assure you that if Trump had a podcast, many would peacefully unsubscribe as well. This isn't Eminem saying the f word a lot and rapping about raping his mother... The stakes a little higher this time around. I don't think the Rogan fanboys don't really understand that. And yes, the biggest issue is that he is extremely popular. Having a large platform and a cultish fanbase (you can even see this from some of the diehard fans here; they will defend him to the death) is a dangerous combination when you're spewing dangerous misinformation in a time where we need humanity on the same page. There is no other option really.

I guess the issue is that no one listened to or cares about those RWNJs. Rogan is popular, hard to pin down ideologically so he becomes a target.

There tonnes of maniacs saying cray cray shit out there. But, he was visible to a broader audience and Young name checked him. That’s all it is.

I mean they are probably still collecting your data anyway. There is no way Spotify isn’t problematic for any number of reasons. They exploit artists, but give a podcaster $100 mill. If they can sell their users out to Russia or a China like Facebook, I am sure they do.

for sure don’t give money to Spotify.

Evander Kane plays hockey and does harmless things 99% of the time but occasionally he'll physically assault women. It's ridiculous that people react negatively to him.

So interviewing someone with a contrarian viewpoint once, is roughly equal to or worse than assaulting women? Interesting comparables.

His cultish fanbase is a real problem. You can even see it here. They would take a bullet for him so they'll never quite comprehend just how big the stakes are for humanity. This is way way bigger than their cries over "censorship" or their "wah omg ur being mean to my man" crap. He has an army of millions of brainless folks who hang on to his every word during a time where we really really need to follow science.

I don't know if you're referring to me, but I wouldn't take a bullet for anybody. As I said yesterday, I haven't listened to his podcast much at all lately. You are also greatly over-stating his influence. It sucks that he got taken in by the nonsense, but he's one of millions.

Neil Young is wrong here, you just can't see it because he's on the right team.
