OT: American Politics

I think it feels icky because there's such a massively long list of people who contributed to this, that to go to right to her seems quite frankly unfair.

Like we all were convinced Hillary was the next President.
There was Mitch McConnell blocking Garland.
The Russian interference in the election.
62 million Americans voting for the star of the Apprentice.
The handling by both Comey and the media of the but her emails shit.
The Dems lacking a spine.
and on and on and on.

Should she have retired? In hindsight, fuck yeah. But damn, how does anyone go right to RBG?

I agree and I certainly see why you believe it's ickey.

I went right to her because the others between her and today are obvious.

Yeah it’s not her fault, and it doesn’t change her legacy. But because the dems are such losers and get walked all over she was the only one with balls that could’ve brought balance to the force.

Hell if anything her hanging on those last 6 years and almost outlasting Trump despite literally dying just puts another exclamation point on her legacy. Tough mother fucker.

It's Blaming the victim for the criminals act.
Like If your house was broken into you should have secured it better.
Now that said she knew how the court was going... strategic retirement was probably a good choice.. but it's still not her fault any more then She dressed slutty so it was cool to rape her..
Not really. You leave the door unlocked, and put a sign up front that you'd be away for a week and that your house is unlocked and you have valuables in there....yeah the thief is obviously to Blame. But you are too and you are certainly not the victim.

Never said, or meant, the this should undo her legacy. Not should be part of it. She should have retired but chose not to for no other reason that selfishness/narcissism/ not sure how to describe it.
I mean, she probably thought Hillary was gonna win. Like every single one of us. Wouldn't Mitch have just blocked two seats instead of one?

ahhhhh. if we really want to be accurate though it should be Mitchie and his cronies fault for not giving Merrick Garland a hearing. but I get it.
Oh as HL said, there is a looong list of people to blame.

I'm partially backtracking my comment because she is right. Let's rail against the people who actually did this, then the lady who could have stopped it. I just made the assumption that the others are so obvious.

We expect one side to do things the other doesn't, we expect to good guys to be superpeople while we just accept that the bad guys will be bad 'cause that's their nature.
That's why the dems are so disappointing, and maybe worse, complicit.

And of course people tend to look for that lynchpin, it's in our nature be it politics or sports.

She and all the democrats were just naive. High on Obama's popularity and refusing to believe what the republican project actually is. She palled around with Scalia as if he wasn't doing everything in his power to attain this outcome and similar imminent ones. Actually believed Republicans when they said they cared about democracy and the rule of law above all. Never in a million years thought Hillary would lose to Trump. Buncha dummies.

No you are still a victim a STUPID victim but still a victim.

No one is responsible for the actions of another with some caveats. (Husband and Wife, Person and their Guardians, Power of attorney, probably some more I'm not thinking about atm )

I guess you are negligent but not in a criminal way but yeah you'd have some culpability.

Sadly I also thought never in a million years Hillary would lose to Trump.

But yeah, think all of that is fair to say. Naive, complacent.

In the past, I've sorta taken it for granted but I won't ever take politics here lightly again.

ya - had some friendly bets - they were all about the margin of victory not about if hilldog would win

Just some random thoughts on what happens from here.

If you live in a state where abortion is legally considered murder and you travel to a legal state to get an abortion, is there anything to stop your home state from charging you with murder when you get back (if they find out, of course)?

How long until some deep red state makes it a capital offense to obtain or provide an abortion?

What does one of these red states do if they catch a pregnant woman trying to obtain an abortion? Do they start setting up specialized for-profit internment camps where women are kept under lock & key until they’re forced to carry the pregnancy to term?

How much of a direct hand will religious organizations be given in all this? Do evangelical and/or Catholic organizations start setting & up and operating state-approved modern versions of the Magdalene laundries?

The horrifying dystopian ways this all can and will go are kind of endless.
