OT: American Politics

A multi generational effort no less. This has been cooking for 45 years now with right wing institutions being built from the ground up around these attacks on human rights.
Yep, in a way I have to give the GOP it's due. They know that realpolitik is a long game and this SCOTUS ruling didn't just happen, it was 49 years in the making. Back in 1973 while Democrats were taking a victory lap and patting themselves on the back for Roe v Wade, the Republicans were already getting to work on dismantling it. It took nearly 50 years but they got there, and unlike Democrats they will now go the extra mile to ensure that the Democrats can't undo it.

Because at the end of the day, the GOP doesn't give a fuck about democracy. They only care about power.

electing their federal congresspeople every goddamn two years is asinine. results speak for themselves. not that our system is bulletproof...
It's a system that creates an endless election cycle. And since elections run on money, people running for office are continually running after money. US politicians spend more time fundraising than governing.

There are also some anti-abortion Democrats. they don't have the votes even if they got Manchin.. Pretty sure Sinema and a few others wouldn't go along and it wouldn't get past the 60 vote mark anyway..
NOTE: I'd still "try" But democrats get crucified for FAILING Republicans get approval for stopping things..

and in My perfect world Abortion would be safe legal and RARE.
but alas we don't live in my perfect world and this world doesn't want to MAKE it rare (At least the side opposed to it.) since they don't want SEX Ed and don't want contraception.. So Women stop putting out for these assholes..
The GOP has that covered too. Child marriage and rape will be legalized next.

At this point I think it's expected.. /sigh

Well constitutional republic was a good thing but then people got stupid...
Once again, the Republicans were smarter than the Dumbocrats. Democracy works well when the electorate is well informed and engaged. So the GOP set out to fix that. People today, by and large, are a bunch of fucking morons who don't even know what they dont know, don't care enough to find out and dont have the tools to do so if they suddenly did want to know.

Americans have been slowly and deliberately dumbed down over the past 50 years. Today very few people even know how their government works, what the branches of government are, even who the President is.

Back in 1973 Watergate was a big deal because people knew enough about government and were engaged enough in the process that they could see how it was impacting American democracy. Today most Americans don't know or care about the January 6th hearings and have no idea just how much worse it is than Watergate (which they now also know nothing about)

Republicans figured out that if you can get people distracted and detached from participating in democracy they won't even notice when it's gone, or will notice only when it's too late.

It's almost at the too late stage now.

Also guessing this means using any method of birth control pill that thins the lining of the uterus and prevents a fertilized egg from implanting is effectively homicide.

There are other health conditions this is used for so pretty scary stuff.

The day after the most devastating news for women's rights in like 50 years and the huge long list of people that had a hand in it, everyone's blaming... the dead lady who fought for women's rights her whole damn life. Yeah, sounds right.
Her own hubris negated everything she did. She should have looked at the calendar and realized that she had way too many "yesterday's" and not enough "tomorrow's" on it. She should have resigned in Obama's first term when he had a super majority.

Instead she pretended she was immortal.

It's Blaming the victim for the criminals act.
Like If your house was broken into you should have secured it better.
Now that said she knew how the court was going... strategic retirement was probably a good choice.. but it's still not her fault any more then She dressed slutty so it was cool to rape her..
She's not at fault, but she is responsible.

If you leave your door unlocked and someone robs you, you are still the victim of a robbery and the fact that your door was unlocked doesn't make the thief any less guilty. But you are responsible for being dumb, which is not a crime but carries consequences, one of which is that you are more susceptible to being robbed.

By not stepping down under a Democratic administration, RGB was rolling the dice on being able to outlive the Trump administration. She rolled snake eyes and now everybody is going to have to pay.for it.

I think it feels icky because there's such a massively long list of people who contributed to this, that to go to right to her seems quite frankly unfair.

Like we all were convinced Hillary was the next President.
There was Mitch McConnell blocking Garland.
The Russian interference in the election.
62 million Americans voting for the star of the Apprentice.
The handling by both Comey and the media of the but her emails shit.
The Dems lacking a spine.
and on and on and on.

Should she have retired? In hindsight, fuck yeah. But damn, how does anyone go right to RBG?
Because her's was the most easily fixable issue. You can't control what 62 million voters do, or what the FBI decides to do, and you can't give Democrats a spine. But if you're a Supreme Court justice who is so old that your life expectancy can be measured in weeks and months, you have the power to do something that has far reaching consequences.

Unfortunately if you decide to do nothing and just let the clock run out, that also comes with consequences.

ahhhhh. if we really want to be accurate though it should be Mitchie and his cronies fault for not giving Merrick Garland a hearing. but I get it.
Yes, but we EXPECT Republicans to act like assholes. And because we know that they will, the rest of us have to be on the ball. Someone in the Obama administration needed to have a chat with RGB during his first term when he was virtually bulletproof.
