OT: American Politics

The thing I don’t understand about American gun culture is the recklessness of it all. why is there such a lack of respect for them and the safety risks they pose?

even if there is a guaranteed right of access, there is no reason why there can’t be a total overhaul of the education around guns and safety. The constitution doesn’t say anything about no training required.

and there is also the underlying mental heath, and badly needed education/criminal justice system reforms that exacerbate all of it.

Sad that these sensible, no-rights-infringed rules would save so many lives but have pretty much zero chance of passing.
BTW, last week I was at the range and afterwards got to talking in the lounge to other enthusiasts. None of them argued with going through that for the sport they love. None.

This whole "gun owners won't accept it" is a narrative perpetrated by the gun lobby.

Oh one of them said they should do this like TSA Pre-check where they investigate you then give you a known traveler number. In other words, if you're checked out and passed your window is lessened to two weeks to purchase.

It's reflective of American society. The lack of respect for it I mean. It was rooted in American exceptionalism that further reduced to individual exceptionalism.

If I had a kid id for sure make him/her/them smoke the whole pack
My fifteen year old can shoot dead center at 25 feet consistently. Some idiot better not drop his gun around her.

She also assists in teaching kids gun safety. What to do and don't do if you come across one and especially how to maintain composure and not panic. Knowledge reduces fear.

if someone could use their free article allowance and screenshot this article for me that would be cool.
