OT: American Politics

Personally, I think the background check/red flag law stuff is a huge deal that would have somewhat of an impact.

It seems like a really obvious pattern that mass shooting suspects have run ins/assaults/threats with, more often than not, women.
I saw a shirt yesterday that said "if you come for my uterus I'm coming for your guns"

Ballsilly worn by a woman

You're an adult. You know you can't snap fingers and make others see the light.

Do you whine and cry or prepare your kid?

I did the latter. Cruel world as it is.
there's nothing wrong with taking practical steps to prepare for the reality you actually live in, while still advocating for the changes that would improve that reality, no?

That's what I do. What I don't do is assume a simple life hack is the solution to century old problem.

the school shootings are the big topic today for obvious reasons but all mass shootings, suicides, and spousal abuse should be looked at

Guns - reducing the ease and types of guns
- the low hanging fruit is the easy one (though i do not pretend to be an expert at all) - these fancy military style guns (and whatever bump stock is) should be outright banned - this should reduce the death toll during any mass shooting event

- gun restrictions should happen next - background checks, waiting periods, etc- this should help for all the mass shootings, suicides, abuse

- gun registry, ammo limits, gun education (proper storage, etc) - this should reduce all three and some of the accidental shootings

Mental Health - getting to the root of the problem
- fund the shit out of this, fund the shit out of this in schools too, also free healthcare - this should help with a lot of the underlying issues

Other
- beef up womens rights and supports
- make it harder to buy guns - less access, no online, etc
- make schools safer - sure this can include doors but also processes and preventative measures
- get better political donation laws

some of this applies to canada as well

How would the deductible work?
Well obviously there no protecting for murder or something like that but injury? Why should it be any different. Just make it that you have a mandatory sentence of you have no insurance and injure someone

I do like the idea. It also circumvents the second amendment because it doesn't prohibit you from having a weapon, just for misusing it.

Which changes to gun laws do you think might make a difference?
First. Bribes.

Offer double the existing guns worth as a pass through deductible to turn them in. Ammo too, buy it back.

Second, background checks and 90 day wait period to conduct those tests properly and flag questionable applicants. This also works as a very good "cool down" period

Third, national database of gun sales and flags from other states

Fourth, kill the gun shows or make it as onerous to purchase one there

Five, all private gun sales must occur and be witnessed at a licensed gun shop and entered in the national database

Six twenty one years old to purchase. If alcohol kills and they made it 21... do the math

Seven continuing education courses every two years to maintain your license.

Eight - that license. Everyone should require one.

That's just the start

Sad that these sensible, no-rights-infringed rules would save so many lives but have pretty much zero chance of passing.
