OT: American Politics

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The Lib, NDP, and anyone else paying attention knew at that time what was being done. Basically, the gov. payed the banks cash for insured mortgages. They risked no money, and it was not done in secret. So why should anyone be upset now?

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

because that's what the left feeds on. class envy and anger at "the man".

the same things that drove those occupy lunatics are driving the quebec students now. gimme. right now. i'm owed. my problems are someone else's fault.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I don't really understand the problem here. Just give all these students that are on "strike" a failing grade. And if they don't start attending classes and bringing their grades up in the necessary time frame, boot them out of school.

If this was about student fees, it would have died a long time ago. The we-want-more-more-more unions are feeding this and keeping it alive. Same thing they did with the OWS idiots...until public opinion started to turn on them.

Screw you. I want what I want and I don't care.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

The funniest thing about the CLASSE's proposal is that they are basing their revenue numbers on taxing all banks operating in Canada, not just those in Quebec.

So essentially they want to tax all of the Canadian banking industry just so their provinces university can be free.

It's insane.

I love how you make out the left are all nuts but the right is well right

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

there are loons on the right too. i'm not denying that. but at least they aren't "occupying" parks all over the world having drum circles and asking for all their debt to be cancelled while their port-a-potties overflow and they're dying of overdoses.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I don't have that much sympathy for the students, they get significant private benefits from PSE - they should foot some of the total bill. That said, I suppose these kids are showing some balls, unlike the sheep elsewhere.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

You guys just can't deal with hot issues without state sanctioned violence, eh?

Keep the government out of my business!!!

But it's entirely fine if they intrude in yours......

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

If I was in power, and I wanted to keep things for myself (and my friends) I would make sure that we kept the status-quo, kept people quiet...and if anybody did get loud, I'd make sure their message was drowned out by concentrating on the crazies and hoping the public continues to ignore the obvious.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

people like me aren't "in power". i didnt come from money or from a family that had political connections. i worked hard, followed the rules, did well in school, acquired important skills, worked my way up from joe jobs, supported myself through university, paid off my student loans, scrambled around in the beginning to catch on to the bottom rung of my career, and then kept working hard to earn a good paycheque. i didnt "occupy" anything when i was younger because i didnt have a highly paid job right out of highschool. i didnt expect to get a free lunch for tuition. other people shouldnt expect everything for nothing and then blame others when things arent going their way.

i'm not "in power", but that doesnt mean i have an ounce of sympathy for sandal-wearing, weed-smoking bongo players who want to occupy public spaces demanding everything for nothing.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

we've been over this before. i distinctly recall your boy zeke posting a bunch of videos supposedly showing "rowdy" teapartiers that when you actually watched them, showed the exact OPPOSITE.

that might actually be why he's disappeared. he was so ashamed at how wrong he was about the tea party videos that he couldnt bear to show his face around here anymore.

Dude, when you went to university tuition was massively subsidized. Way more than now.

Re: OT: Canadian Politics

I've always found it hilarious how the Canadian middle class "by my own boot straps crowd" views themselves. Good on ya for doing the right things and making something of yourself, but you didn't have 100-120K (inflation adjusted) of student debt after 4 years of University. If you worked your way through Uni, you benefitted from minimum wage laws, collective bargaining, etc.... immensely. Society paid a significant cost to assist you in becoming what you are.

and you know what? I'm glad it did.
