OT: American Politics

I mean, could be but awfully skeptical of Markwayne Mullin vs NYT’s assertion of Israeli officials, US intelligence officials, IAEA head, and Vance’s squirrely answer.

The main takeaway for me right now is that no one really knows anything yet but the Iranians know more than anyone else, and the smartest thing for them right now is if the world believes that uranium is buried.

So it's kind of funny how many parallels to China are developing in the US but this one might be the most damaging. Xi has a complete stranglehold on basically all levels of decision making. No one in the Chinese government will make a decision without knowing that they're fulfilling his specific desire, regardless of how informed or realistic that desire is. This creates a pretty obvious atrophy of government capability because any organization even 100th the size of a national government is far too complex for one guy to know everything at the level necessary to make every fucking decision.

This leads to entire arms of the government basically shutting the fuck down when the decision maker is paying attention to something else.

the one consolation is that this is why autocracies inevitably fail......

.....as long as there are democracies strong enough to avoid being conquered in the meantime.
