OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Yeah, it really varies. And also, at least most of us here are smart enough to understand that just because I got a mild case, I'm not going to diminish anyone else's experience. The vast majority of infected, it is pretty mild, not much worse than a cold or a flu. Ontario is adding 10k cases a day, but hospitalizations are only increasing by double digits a day, and deaths are still single digit numbers.

But geez, the fact that hospitalizations are going up by double-digit numbers per day means it's pretty damn obvious that it's not just a normal cold. And it's not like those who aren't in hospital are fully in the clear. I've started googling "how long does the post-covid cough last". The hacking cough I had before is gone, but my gut says this basic cough is going to linger for an awfully long time.

My brother briefly went to the hospital but I don't believe his case will count as "hospitalized" because it wasn't an overnight stay. So it's a mild case for the record books. His life has been turned upside down.

But yeah your odds are great but there's no point in looking at "most common symptoms" because severity varies significantly from person to person (and if the most common symptom is runny nose that doesn't mean other more severe symptoms aren't alongside it; it just means most people get that particular symptom). If you're ok with taking that leap and playing the odds, have at it. Nothing at all wrong with that because your odds are good if young and healthy. But as long as you aren't reading a lot of "sniffle" anecdotes and assume that's what you'll get too. Accept that it may be far worse.
 
Science is so, so awesome and I hope people getting it now recognize it. If OG covid rolled through like with this transmissibility, it would've been such a disaster.
 
I've made fun of dingaling a lot but this one has gotten super internet famous for all the reasons ding dong has gotten famous. Except the opposite. It's only fair I mock her too.

People LOVE her because psychology is a hell of a thing. Folks listen to her more than the realists because it's what they want to hear, much similar to positive anecdotes (which we all value deeply) vs negative ones (which we all question as a one-off impossible scenario). Some psychopath took the time to make a long ass thread on her. It's a bit weird but I respect the effort.

In Ontario because of fresh immunity, though it was exponentially rising again in November. Europe was drowning and so were many parts of the US. I mean look at Portugal, the highest vaxxed country in the world. They got destroyed by delta. Most countries did. We were spared. The delta take was a catastrophe.

Agree that she stole most of her takes from here tho. Must be a big leaf fan.
 
Yeah one more month and she would have been right in some ways! Instead her track record is worse than some twitter celebrity nutritionist who jizzes over death and suffering for a living. Not good, folks.
 
Although claiming that covid spreads through your asshole because you have no idea how to interpret a study was not a good look. That's probably gonna take the prize for the worst take.

Although delta was truly horrifying as fuck. Far and away the most severe variant. Really thankful it doesn't appear to be significantly more severe than that disaster. That shit was brutal.
 
Pattern in a lot of countries/cities right now is that hospitalizations are near a tipping point but fewer are proceeding to ICU/ventilators. Vaccines do a great job preventing the worst outcomes. But the sheer number of hospitalizations has been an issue as the lag from cases takes hold around the world and the rise in admissions becomes exponential. Hope we can weather the storm... We are very short staffed here!
