This is what we're up against... You can't explain nuance or scientific method to these folks. It was definitely too early for anyone to suggest we knew for certain vaccines would stop transmission. Twitter suspending the OP is stupid though. It just adds fuel to the outrage machine.
TLDR: You believe in tyranny and concentration camps for the unvaxxedI guess what blows me away is that in their worldview, nothing is allowed to change between March of last year and now. Any statement made March of last year is not able to change in any way regardless of the new facts on the ground or else it's all a lie.
This really boils down to a struggle between people who understand what science is at it's root and those who require definitive mandates to remain stable for their entire fucking lives.

Maddow's comments were pretty dumb even at the time tbh. Assuming immunity was long lasting or that variants that evade immunity wouldn't arise was never a correct take. Journalists speaking about science with confidence should be banned. Just listen to the nerds and call it a day.

which unfortunately for many of them is donald trumpMagical thinking vs Realism
Magical thinkers have a mandate from their personal diety that the world is a certain way and more or less unchangeable. That there is a big plan and that they have a personal place in it.
Realists know that's all horseshit, but the above is far more comfortable to root your worldview in for most people, so here we are.
Once alpha came with that level of increase in transmissibility in just a year, most nerds revised expectations and most that I follow did sorta predict this within a 1-2 year period. I know both Gupta and Andersen called it pretty exactly and were called doomsdayers. And then Gupta said he expects a super variant that evades nearly all immunity to appear within 6 months (with over 50% confidence). A week later omicron was discovered. That's fair, but on the date the comments were made nothing was incorrect or crazy about them. She was wrong to speak so definitively, but that's about the extent of it. Shit has gone almost as wrong as it possibly could have since then, well worse than most experts were expecting. Further mutation including immune escape was predicted, but not like Delta and Omicron, not this fast.
People know less than ever while thinking they know more than ever.
