OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

You mean in general? I'd say overall it feels like a cleaner eating experience. The dark meat looks greasy, dirty, fatty, it's stuck to the bone. The breast is nice and clean, a big separate chunk. I like chicken more on the drier side, not sure why. If we're talking about Swiss, they'd sometimes serve it a little less cooked, so it was more on the white side, juicier, hot and delicious. Other times they'd serve it a little more well done, and it would look a little reddish/orangish, but probably would say even tastier. I feel like you can chew white meat, savor the flavor. Dark meat is a greasy slosh and down it goes. That's probably the best I can do to describe it.

I told this story before. My gramps loves to tell the one about how when he was a kid, his whole family would have the dark meat and they'd leave the white meat for their housekeeper, and he would plead with them to just let her have the dark meat ONCE! He's still a dark fan, but I can't think of any of his kids or grandkids preferring it.
I'm jealous of this take. Sometimes I really wish I enjoyed inferior food for the sake of health.

I can't believe I just un-subscribed to somebody on Youtube. If you don't know who AvE is, he's fricking hilarious, but his pro trucker videos aren't worth it. 🤷‍♂️

Logic says risks should be reduced with vaccination but it's all too new to know how common it is and how common it is specifically with omicron. Much of this pandemic is about embracing uncertainty unfortunately. We've found out a lot but still don't really know jack shit. And there are plenty of viruses don't really show the longterm consequences till up to decades later.

But for a portion of folks who get infected we know that: neurological issues are a thing, lung issues are a thing, and more recently we've learned that potentially naive t-cell depletion can happen. For the last bit, it basically ages your immune system which makes it harder to fight off infections, cancers, etc. This is a newer discovery that personally scares me the most, but is really only seen with the true long coviders, which likely makes up a very small percentage of vaccinated folks. And for children I believe it is especially rare. But catch it enough times and I worry that we're rolling the dice way too much and our luck may eventually run out.

All of these things are possible. Are they common? Probably not but we don't really know for sure. And tbh at this point life is going on whether we like it or not, so we've just gotta fight through it and hope for the best.

So basically a 25 year old is equal to more likely to die from covid or have potentially life altering long covid (which can be neurological) than die in a car accident, a fairly common cause of death for young people. But sure, nothing to worry about.

And this is a dumb comparison, anyways. Why aren’t we looking at other communicable diseases like the flu or (gasp) diseases were inoculated against, like measles or chicken pox?

It's at this point I'd like to point out that an epic amount of time, money, and energy goes into regulating and managing the negative safety impacts automobiles have on our lives.

Huge amount of money and effort has gone into engineering the vehicles themselves, enforcement of regulations, the design and construction of roadways, etc.

It never fails that when someone tries to show covid's impact next to things we "don't do anything about" that they're entirely and hilariously wrong about how little has actually gone into minimizing the negative impacts of those things they compare covid to.

If you're interested, long article here from Peter expanding on some of these points, and answering some questions posed by people for and against the vaccine and the mandates. (he's always been pro-vaccine, and is against the mandates)

Christ sakes. “If only we put energy as a society into preventing motor vehicle fatalities.”

Drivers licenses, seatbelts, airbags, crash standards, fucking lane markings, bumper strips, rest stops, and every other motor vehicle safety standard and regulation OF ALL TIME. Hundreds of billions per year.

Beleafer has convinced me: you can’t cure stupid. Let it rip, I guess.

He was pushed out of residency and didn’t actually train at the NIH. He practices what he presents as a legitimate field of medical practice “longevity medicine" which isn’t actually a thing. He’s a wellness guru with an MD.

I have to say it is weird that it's the grifters with the biggest platforms, most followers, etc. I would have thought that all of this censorship would have meant that people like Stephen Goldstein, Kristian Andersen, Jesse Bloom, etc. would have more followers than some fraud pseudoscience wellness guru. But nope. The libs suck at censoring!!!
