OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

People setting themselves on fire to protest vax mandates.

Graphic Warning - please be aware.

What the hell, I thought this was some stunt and the guy was wearing some special gear or coating.

How the hell could he walk around casually while he's literally burning like that?

Apparently "extreme pain beyond human understanding" looks really fucking casual.

Who knew?
Skin melting like that, you gotta be on the ground rolling around not knowing what to do with yourself.

This guy is strolling around looking like he's waiting for someone to beer him.

For the folks with kids who want people to do their research for them like ol' Presto. #NotDoingMyOwnResearch

Two low-dose shots will at least start protecting this younger age group, said Spinner, who expects a third will be needed to provide full benefit. "Two doses will give reasonable, just not optimal protection," he said, but it makes sense "to get that started and not continue to delay."

Pfizer-BioNTech tested the higher, 10-microgram dose in toddlers, but found that many spiked fevers. With the lower dose, Spinner said, "pretty much all the fevers went away. They just wiped out pretty much any of these reactions, which was great."

Every medical intervention has the potential for side effects, Spinner said, but those risks are tiny compared to the known problems that a COVID-19 infection can cause.

"I trust these vaccines and I have zero concerns about the safety," he said.

As someone who has an IN on the Derns, I will say that their safety data isn't quite as strong as Pfizer's due to their higher dosage on toddlers. I believe that's why the FDA asked them to enrol more folks in the trial. It's a more potent product. For me, Pfizer or moderna won't help much preventing infections so I'd almost rather give a lil safe dose to children just so they're introduced to the spike.

Another perspective:

“I don’t think authorizing two doses in children ages 2 to 4 years of age where effectiveness in this age group hasn’t been confirmed is going to convince the majority of parents to vaccinate their children,” said Norman Baylor, president and CEO of Biologics Consulting and a former head of the FDA’s Office of Vaccines. “If the vaccine in this age cohort is a three-dose vaccine, FDA should review the data from the three-dose series before authorizing the vaccine.”

Baylor said those results suggest following normal procedures would make more sense here. “The question is, where’s the fire?” he asked. “I think we can take a little time. If that third dose data is available in March, that’s not that long now.”

Thread on a disastrous paper that Novavax put out. This dude does a lot of (rightful) whining about the horrible communication of Novavax but the thread is a bit all over the place. The conclusions:

This is the bit where we can wonder why this product isn't being prioritized in North America. If we got approval and shipments in time for our boosters here in Canada it could have been a complete gamechanger for our personal protection. And all this talk about the vaccines sucking and letting the virus rip/giving up would have been all for nothing.

Too bad.

More reading for parents

Kenney planning to lift restrictions in the coming days. Part of the negotiations with the border blocking in Southern AB

The only saving grace from this is his shift to the extreme right will lose his PC vote in Calgary and kill any chance of re election here.
