OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

shhhhhh. pandemic's over, didn't you get the memo?

We're in a terrible spot really. Hope the omicron specific vaccines do the trick. And then longer term there needs to be variant-proof and/or intransal vaccines. Minimum requirement. So many deaths, so much disabling.

It's all on the scientists now. The people and politicians have given up. To a certain extent, after 2 excruciating years that felt like 10, I do get it.

If the numbers get really high, we'll get masks too late. If hospitals get full, we'll have to drag people kicking and screaming into a short lockdown.

It seems like only a non-vaccine nasal vaccine is going to work at this point.

Ya I totally get giving up. Nothing other than omicron boosters are coming anytime soon. And people are over the 1st gen products anyway. And those may not even work that well tbh.

Situation is shit tho and unlikely to improve till science figures it out.

Get your booster if applicable, wear a N95, limit your time indoors with more than few people.

The best we all can do for now.

The unfortunate reality is that the clown car won the race.

We got lucky early with the vaccines and laughed at the ridiculous over-reactions to masks, jabs and mandates. We said stop hyper-ventilating until we get 80% of people vaccinated and figure out what to do about masks, ventilation, mandates, schools, restaurants etc.

And last year from June till November, the vaccines+masks+mandates was working perfectly. Then omicron came along.

Now lockdowns and mandates are tyranny. Inflation and damaged businesses are fucking with the economy. Vaccines didn't reduce spread like we were told. Truckers saved us from ... something. And the dimmest people believe they were right all along.

The vaccines are JUST good enough for people to ignore everything and live "normally" while lacking the urgency for further innovation and JUST shit enough for dumbfucks to whine about them not working (even though they're the only reason we have SOME normalcy at this stage).

It's too bad really.

Haven't paid attention since we never actually got cases low but... we're starting to fly again with BA.2 obviously dominant. Just in time for my brother's wedding at the end of the month.

Love this chart...

Best part about it is that I could see covid-deniers/anti-vaxxers arguing that perhaps Covid has just naturally gotten less lethal - but then they'd have to admit that Covid was actually a deadly virus right from the beginning.
