OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

The problem is that another friends Mother who speaks to my mother and occasionally speaks to leafmans Mother knows other people there, one of whom we couldn’t draw into this.

Anyways I think the cat is out of the bag because my mother asked me if leafman was there. She asked me by text which I haven’t responded to. I haven’t spoken to my mom in 10 days to avoid this.
whenever my parents ask me a question I don't want to answer I usually just reply with "no comment". drives my dad absolutely batty.

Hey FI doctors. So I had my first two doses of Moderna. I was booked for my booster when I got Omicron. So it’s now been the suggested 12 weeks since infection. Do I Pfizer it or Moderna? Or none?

I'll just say what I would do but even the true super nerds don't know what the RIGHT thing is. This is not advice, just a fake doctor who looks at a lot of data and has experts in the family.

I don't think a 3rd dose would hurt anyone + it will likely extend your Omicron immunity. I think most of the short-term reinfections after 1-3 months have come from non-boosted folks based on preliminary data. So if it was me I'd opt for the 3rd dose.

Moderna gives a stronger immune response (and will likely lengthen your immunity from infection very very slightly) but there have been some studies that show that a heterogeneous mix can be a bit better since Moderna and Pfizer have some differences with certain B-cells, T-cells, etc. so it could give broader coverage vs severe disease specifically, but that may not even matter.

And then there is the x-factor, Novavax. I think Ontario received 10,000 doses recently. Idk where they are or where they're offering it but lab data shows that it may generate a superior response vs Omicron. It's speculative and not proven in real world data yet but that could be an interesting option.

I would probably choose... Honestly idk.. Maybe I'd roll the dice with Novavax since we know the other two aren't so hot vs Omi, but there is no wrong answer and the differences may be minimal in the end.

I don’t think it really matters. I had three Moderna’s, my hubby had three Pfizer’s and my daughter one Pfizer and two Moderna’s. I’d say yes to getting whatever booster is on tap at the time.

I know when I went for my booster, they were only offering Moderna to adults as the the Pfizer was prioritized for teens and olds. I told them that I'd had issues with my 2nd shot, and they did offer me my choice. I stuck with Moderna, as I at least knew what to expect. (sidenote - no reaction at all from the Moderna booster)

Moderna kicked my butt for the second dose. I’m down for whatever as they are all available (well not sure on the novovax front) just want to get the best bang for my buck as I’m not looking forward to reminders of how Covid felt.

I know the Moderna booster is basically a half dose, where the Pfizer is simply another full dose. You could also ask for another full Moderna dose I suppose.

Mexico is testing Moderna in pasta form for constant microdose protection.....tempted to fly there ASAP

Some nerds have done some napkin math on this and while it is VERY early, it confirms what we already knew: long covid with omicron appears to be quite a bit more rare than with prior variants. We know vaccines reduce LC by 40-50% + Omicron might be milder in general so that could slash it further. Early estimates were 15-30% of all infections resulted in LC early on... Gotta be well into the single digits now if vaxxed with Omi. Obviously. If it were just as high we'd all know several people bedridden and entirely fucked up by now

well, my turn has come. felt a tickle in my throat at work this aft so came home and took a rapid test. came back positive in record time.

good news is Mrs. Wayward's isolation ends tomorrow so we are effectively trading off lol.

I have some fatigue and tiny bit of brain fog but also worked a full day. updates to come...

also, I came very close to making a snarky comment in my email to my colleague thanking me for my diligence masking...
