OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Not high risk, just concerned about waning protection and its overlap with long covid's numerous future risks.

I'm exactly in the same boat....(why I asked Dr Presto about it)

I attended my first (potential) super spreader event last wkd. (seems no infections occured)

Will be attending more such events (indoor concerts, social gatherings, etc) during the next 6 months. Rolling the dice, and not sure about getting a non-Omi booster

Looks like we oldsters can get the 4th dose tomorrow. Not sure I'm going to do it. Another guy showed up to work today sick AF. I asked why he was here and he said he has tested negative all week. His wife and 2 kids are positive. I'm not sure how you can think you might just have a cold. Boss came in and sent him home. If I don't get this, I may start going to church. ⛪
your coworkers are quite the collection of folks lol

If you're doing high risk stuff it might be worth it. Idk when omi shots are coming. Seems the FDA is expecting fall which probably means late fall/early winter for us; will we even be faced with omicron-like variants by then? Iunno.

Right now transmission is out of control so I'd be cautious but we'll probably have a lull in cases shortly. From there you can time your shots accordingly if you're even approved for them. Just beware you'll be in a similar boat of a significantly waned vax within 2-3 months if you do get the jab. Hopefully some real world data comes on novavax. And hopefully shit like that Indian intranasal vax comes out with good data this month.

There's a tradeoff potentially with imprinting and diminishing returns with each og booster. No one really knows what the right decision is. It's kinda situational. I think we'll pretty much all be hit by the end of the year regardless tbh. US estimates over 50% of their entire population have gotten infected by omicron since December. By the end of year that's gonna be nearly everyone. It sucks and I'm pretty sure the longterm implications are gonna be dire for even most mild infections, but you can't avoid it forever. It's simply reality.

I truly do not understand my colleagues' recklessness.

This morning, one of our admins reported that her sister, of whom she was a close contact every day this week, just tested positive. So the remaining staff decided that today would be a good day to all share a meal together in our boardroom, unmasked (I did not join). Gonna be an interesting week next week I suspect... (and you can bet this guy is gonna be super salty if I have to do extra crap next week cause half our workforce is out of commission...)

man feels super fucking bleak again. may be some recency bias here though as the Wayward household has been hit twice in basically three months...

Ms. Wayward is close to trying to stop me from going to the office due to the behaviour of my colleagues. Tough to argue against her...

Yeah, I don't think that avoiding it forever is a reasonable goal. Avoiding it until the technology reduces any and all concern down to negligible though, is a reasonable goal.

I’ve been back in the office for a few weeks now after two blissful years of work-from-home, attended a potential superspreader work event just shy of a week ago and spent a good chunk of today training a new hire who left in the mid-afternoon with “cold/flu” symptoms that she suspects she caught from her kids in daycare.

If I don’t catch it at this point, I should probably donate myself to medical science so they can figure out why I’m immune.

I think I'm going to take whatever booster I'm offered as I'm offered it.

I really don't want this shit again. I don't have any obvious long covid symptoms but I feel like it's aged the fuck out of me. Am I super tired all the time because I'm in my mid 30s or because I got covid twice in 9 months? Or a little from column A and B? lol

I have no idea how this is even accurate since we don't have accurate case numbers, only estimates. And the dude who makes this is slightly insane. But feel free to use this when attending large gatherings. For the wedding I went to it said my risk was roughly 60% at the time. Seems around 20% of the wedding caught it.

Ahhh, the old "do I have mono or am I just really, really bored" conundrum.

Yeah...I'm torn. At the moment, my life is a weird and extreme combo of 97% super hermit and 3% "fuck it, I'm going to that concert/party/etc"

tbh, I think my life pre covid was 75% super hermit and 25% go out and have a blast

2 things...want to get together friends to just do rando shit (bbq, watch the game, whatev) and get on planes and go interesting places without worrying.

That's it. Literally all that I'm asking. Could give a fuck if I ever saw the inside of a big box store, mall, etc for the rest of my life.

Yep… stopped going to the mall when Bezos got his shit together

Life has always been pretty simple when you break it down like that. This pandemic has taught me that ME and I are one in the same which I'm sure is something he wanted to hear. But at least we're not needy bitches.

I believe the proper clinical treatment for this type of behaviour is a punch in the face.
