OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

June approval in the US is most likely. No word on Canada yet. Your 2 year old will have to fend for him or herself for now while we all pretend that covid is over.
Thanks. He turns 2 in August. So I am hoping for a vaccine birthday gift.

I think it should be approved for 0-5 years. I think there is some concern with effectiveness on Omicron which is causing some delays. As we know, it won't really protect from infection and the trials are too small to tell how well it protects from hospitalization/death since it's probably unlikely anyone in the trial is hospitalized or dies. Maybe by 2025 the kids will get an Omicron specific vaccine. No rush, covid is over.

I still don’t know how the fuck I didn’t catch it after the multiple close contacts I had at work a couple of weeks back. And with my friends & relatives now seemingly testing positive left right and center lately.

And still, to my knowledge, I haven’t had Covid once yet, since I haven’t had any illness of any kind since a cold that turned out not to be Covid back in March of 2020. I guess the only way is if I caught it at some point but was 100% asymptomatic.

Immunity, ubermensch. Congrats!

someone suggested to me this week that some folks have a 'natural immunity'. granted, this person has less medical training than Dr. Presto, so take it for what it is worth...

Presto luck helps a lot. If you catch a dude in peak infectious viral shedding I think you're doomed; usually 3-6 days post symptom onset for Omi (which is often 5-9 days post exposure). For those vaxxed and especially boosted, mother fuckers become symptomatic real early bc your immune system recognizes the threat quickly and rips into high gear. If you catch a dude pre-symptomatic or even in the first day of symptoms you can potentially get away especially if you have brief exposure. And viral shedding can ramp up significantly from literally one hour to the next too. So presto luck is a big factor.

My sister in-law started isolating from my brother 4 days post-exposure (he started showing symptoms 2 days post-exposure) and she never caught it. But of course everyone is different and some shed earlier on too.

Am currently in Germany, tried to go in to get a booster, and apparently my 2x vaccines plus positive Covid test from December counts me as "fully vaccinated" here, so they didn't actually give me the booster. Was kind of hoping to get it just to get my proper EU QR code. I guess I gotta pay attention to when the rules change and they open it up for more.

So Paxlovid has had some fantastic real world success; many are seeing immediate reversal in a moderate illness after a single dose. But if any of you folks know anyone taking it, be cautious. There is a often a rebound effect after you complete your 5 day course, where you test negative for a few days and then positive a few days later and become often highly symptomatic again (sometimes more symptomatic than the initial infection and most likely infectious again for the next 5-10 days at minimum):

Don't know how common it is but there are plenty of anecdotes coming in and it was observed in the trial as well. May have to extend the course, may be signs of some resistance.. no one knows yet. But it's being investigated.

science will need your body to keep humanity around

I mean... This is obviously a long covid thing, no? Liver inflammation post covid is a thing for adults, why not kids too?

So if I was exposed on Sunday and still have no symptoms how much longer should I be wary of doing stuff? 3-5 days post exposure appears to be the norm.

I'd feel confident if you wake up fine tomorrow morning. But yeah, after 5 days it's no lock, but a pretty safe bet you're good. Anecdotally, most people I know became at least slightly symptomatic after 2-3 days. Many studies point in the same direction. 4-5 days post exposure is usually (but not always!) as late as it gets.

But you had constant exposure, no? May have been actually infected from Mrs. DP 2-3 days later than you may have thought, which brings it down to 4-5 days post exposure. Jaysfan just had the one exposure so he either caught it in that moment or never.

this is true and a good point.

and that is Mrs. Wayward to you!
