OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

accelerated aging? wtf is this virus

We chose....poorly.

In other news, it's looking more and more like the next variant will be more severe + do a nice job evading BA.1 and BA.2 immunity. Omicold was a nice break but it appears a couple variants with the L452R mutation are picking up steam and may become dominant; they are thriving in South Africa at the moment.

Wonder how long before the mask mandates and lockdowns return. Maybe an event like this will kickstart operation warp speed type urgency. So it's not all bad news.

With that said, South African hospitalization/death data will be crucial to watch. Lab data is nice, data on mice is nice.. But it doesn't always translate perfectly clinically to humans. So hopefully we're spared a bit. Delta-like severity for a virus that transmits like omicron is something we obviously needed to be prepared for.. But shit it would be pretty fucking catastrophic.

Based on its mechanism and seeing other products on the market with similar mechanisms being ~30-50% effective vs covid hospitalization, I believe in this product.

/No position
Especially since it is one of the few that doesn't inhibit the vaccine response.

On paper it really does seem like the perfect drug. It's just a matter of whether it works or not. Even limited efficacy should get approval though because of its strong safety features. Could help some symptom resolution for long haulers too because of it's anti-inflammatory properties, though I don't think it's being trialed for that.

The fact that the antidepressant, fluvoxamine, has significant effectiveness vs hospitalization likely because of its anti-inflammatory properties makes me think that something like this should be at least comparable. Hopefully superior.

/Still no position but I hope it makes you rich

fuuuuuuuuuuuck.

glad we made the switch from cloth masks to FN-N95s...

but still, fuuuuuuuuckk.

Looks like Papa Preston may have a confirmed vaccine longhaul injury. Plenty of Rheumatoid arthritis markers in his blood. Conveniently for other reasons he had the same blood test done just months before the booster and they came out 100% normal. Vaccine longhauling is a thing but hard to know the real rate of it. He has been referred to a rheumatologist but this sorta longhaul thing is common from both covid infections and vaccines (a lot more rare) so rheumatologists are very in demand right now... It may be awhile till he gets proper treatment. Shitty.
