OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

So the anti vaxx crew may not have been horribly wrong?
I think this kind of thing is very rare and the benefits outweight the risks, especially for older people... But yeah, sometimes your own immune response can be your worst enemy. I think that's likely at least a part of what causes these long-term issues. And that's why I've never liked the idea of getting vaxxed 2-3 times a year. The risks are small each time but they add up the more you do it. Took my dad 3 shots for his issues to flare up.

All I know is I've got 2 direct family members with longhauler symptoms now so I'm going to be extra paranoid now. Fucking shitty genetics.

With that said, when we get next gen vaccines or variant specific vaccines and they actually work to prevent infection I'm still gonna do it. I just wonder how common these things are because admittedly there hasn't been ANY data on this sort of thing and we know it happens. Transparency has sucked and that stuff definitely helps fuel antivaxxers. It makes it look like they're hiding something even though the data would probably look pretty favorable for this kind of thing being low risk.

Looks like Papa Preston may have a confirmed vaccine longhaul injury. Plenty of Rheumatoid arthritis markers in his blood. Conveniently for other reasons he had the same blood test done just months before the booster and they came out 100% normal. Vaccine longhauling is a thing but hard to know the real rate of it. He has been referred to a rheumatologist but this sorta longhaul thing is common from both covid infections and vaccines (a lot more rare) so rheumatologists are very in demand right now... It may be awhile till he gets proper treatment. Shitty.
damn that really sucks. sorry to hear.

nah - they have been

but sometimes even a seatbelt can cause your drummer to lose his arm

oddly enough the ant vaxxers might have had a point if everybody was not going to get covid - but we are all going to get covid so all the health risks are much worse

Fwiw that's the beta booster. Prolly won't be used but still interesting. Omicron bivalent data should come soon. Hopefully it performs better than this.

You have a good weekend too!!!!
I just reread that and fuck me that sounded way more negative than I intended. It does fine! But a vaccine specifically targeted to omicron will hopefully be better.

Although there is conveniently an immune escape variant spreading rapidly in South Africa right now so it may be too late anyway

Need broader vaccines because yeah, omicron vaxxes are expected to be rolled out a whole year after omicron originated. Pfizer promised 100 days I think? Heh. Anyway, too long. Plus who knows how they're splitting up production right now. What percentage are omicron boosters and what percentage are the original? And finally... Idk if they'll even work THAT well. Even people who get infected by omicron aren't generating the same immune response as past variants. Might need another 2 doses and how well will it work vs these new immune escape variants in South Africa? Iunno.

Tldr: a few are in development. It's going to be hard and might take a really long time, but could be possible to accomplish.

No operation warp speed this time around so those vaccines and intranasals (if those are successful as well) will take a while.
