OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Only negative I see is that 1 out of the 10 severe cases came from a vaccinated person. Moderna had I believe 5 severe cases, all placebo. So all in all pretty amazing. Obviously isn't a silver bullet... At least 50-55% of the planet need to get this thing to potentially get that herd immunity. The good news is, it was expected that we would need 70-80% vaccinated but the vaccine is way more effective than we expected so it becomes a lot simpler in the end.

EDIT: Key point here is that there is 94% efficacy in those over 65. It was of some concern that it wouldn't work as well with the elderly.

Basically can’t go anywhere in the town I live in now. Full on conspiracy theorists throughout re: covid. Apparently makes more sense that all the richest people in the world got together and caused this pandemic.

Pretty much no one wears a mask unless it blatantly says you have to at any store. The mantra is “Everyone should have a choice, we can’t let totalitarianism take over!”. So frustrating....
i, for one, welcome our new virus overlords

It's the #me-me-me movement.

..but I've been planning this vacation for years.
..but Thanksgiving is the only time I can see family.
..but my neighbour had a BBQ, why can't I.
..but it's only this one time.
..but my child will be missing out.
..everyone else will keep me safe.
..but i have a beautiful smile

Crazy that this may lead to eradication if the common cold.
If that is true, I wonder how many years it will take for productivity losses from COVID to be passed by productivity gains from no more colds.

(I mean, assuming the world isn't a giant fireball in a few years anyway.)

Looks like Ontario will receive enough doses to vaccinate 1.2 million people between January and March 2021. That's just just from two vaccines. J+J and Oxford get approved and we can at the very least double that.

That's going to be huge. Healthcare workers and the vulnerable should all get tackled in Q1. Q2 and Q3 should have more approved vaccines and the last 13 mil or so will get vaccinated far quicker.

And the J&J 1 doser hopefully not long after. If all get approved as expected I'd expect about 15-20% of Ontario to be vaccinated by March based on Christine Elliott's projection for the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines. Surely enough for healthcare workers and the elderly/vulnerable. By mid-late spring/early summer we can look at getting the rest of us done which will probably take us into the fall (but things should be relatively normal when half the province gets vaccinated).

Especially if it's the vulnerable half. Barring a setback I expect the pressure to be off the hospitals by March. Very uplifting.

Yup. That's the big one. That first batch is going to be crucial because we're going to almost immediately protect the folks who are predominately crowding the hospitals right now. Selfishly, I am hoping to get mine by summer, but I fully understand that it may not come till fall or late 2021. I'd imagine I am very last priority; young and already contracted the virus.

I’m cautiously optimistic but I’d feel better about the timing if the federal government would comment on any timeline. They are the ones controlling the distribution rollout. So far they have been pretty tight-lipped.
