OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

This variant takes up like half the cases in Toronto these days I believe, and growing exponentially; will be 100% of all cases soon enough. The reopening was a brutal idea. It has proven to be a bitch to beat in many countries. Israel is barely doing it even with their amazing mass vaccination program. And I fear that today's high case numbers in Ontario will be the trend moving forward. More transmissive + more deadly. Vaccines work on them but this is the kind of shit we'll need to avoid moving forward. Only way to do that is to reduce transmission!

Are there lots of asymptomatic cases with that variant?

uggggggh. fucking Ontario.

From what I read I think it's about the same. Just more transmissive by ~45-85% and a slightly higher risk of death. That study isn't peer reviewed but it's not the first to come to that conclusion. I think kids are still very likely to be just fine. The main risk is still in the elderly/vulnerable.

I chose the poorest country in the Americas to prove a point (plus my better half is from there so it was the first country to come to mind)! Though I'm pretty sure Haiti is poorer now so I fucked that one up. Albania to Zambia has a better ring to it too. Fucking Preston.
Fucking preston leaving out Zimbabwe...

So question to those in Canada that already received a shot; are they giving you vaccination cards like they are down here?

Im so very confused by the ontario vaccine frame work... how does one verify if they are in phase 2 or phase 3.
It requires a lot of guess work. I think my dad is in phase 2 but it's a jumbled mess so we're left to guess. Maybe a coin flip?

My plan is to tip the bouncer at the pharmacy $50 and jump the queue

There's more and more evidence that those who already got covid have an unbelievable immune response to a single dose. They should be at the back of the line for dose #2. Might see that happen soon. Stay tuned!

Does anyone around here who lives in Ontario know anyone who’s gotten a vaccine, or have any idea at all when they’ll be able to get one themselves?

As a work-from-home guy in my 30’s with no other risk factors, I have no idea whatsoever.

And with this talk of Canada delaying the second dose for up to four months, I’m also thinking l’m going to be in no rush to go out and get that first dose. I’d rather wait until there’s enough supply for me to get both doses within the intended time period.

Thought it'd be a little sooner given that I'm in emergency services and covid almost took us all out earlier in the pandemic but I've been told I'm Phase 2. No idea what that means timing wise tbh.

Friends that work in dental offices are all getting theirs now.

Gen population is likely good for late May/early to mid June for their first dose. Second dose would probably be in August or early September so it won't be the full 4 months.

Fun fact: Most vaccines work better with an extended timeline in between doses. They effectively chose the minimal amount of time in between doses that a typical vaccine would have to speed up the process of the trials. There's some proof that the Oxford one, in particular, works better with a longer gap in between doses. We don't have time to 10000% confirm that or to find out if that's the case for the others because this is kind of a desperate situation. We do know they all offer solid protection after 1 dose tho.

My dental
Office is all
Going this week or next for theirs

I know a few people who are vaccinated (all docs).

The part that confused me was "respiratory conditions". My brother got vaccinated in NY statr based on a history of athsma, which i also have. I also have a history of pneumonia... no idea if this would qualify.
