OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Just saw this? Schools weren't already closed for in-person learning?

They decided to go with a phased approach. Basically, every time the cases ticked up, they closed a new level of schools. So high schools closed one time, then cases continued to rise, so they closed another grade. Then things kept going up, so they closed another grade.

Vaccine uptake in London ON. Looking pretty good. It's lagging of course but at least trending towards 80%+

By April 12, 59% of the doses administered were Sinopharm vaccines and the rest were Covishield, a version of AstraZeneca Plc’s shot made under license in India.

To date 62.2% of its eligible population is fully vaccinated, according to the Bloomberg Vaccine Tracker. That compares with 55.9% for Israel, the next most vaccinated nation.

The number of active cases in the nation rose to 1,068 on May 3 from 612 on April 28, according to health ministry announcements.

The Maldives, while not vaccinated as extensively (they're more similar to the UK) are in a similar spot. There is a surge there as well and they used the same vaccines. Israel has been vaxxed up for longer so hopefully things start to plummet in Seychelles soon.

Pfizer vs Sinopharm + AZ is probably a big deal. We may need mRNAs for all in the end.

And in fairness, the tiny populations of the Maldives and Seychelles could make the per capita look a lot worse than reality. Time will tell!

True. More data would be useful. There may be other factors at play.
The UK and Israel are probably better test cases.

Canada's getting another 1m doses of Moderna on the week of May 17th. That's yuge. Gives us the supply to do 150k doses per day for the rest of the month on average between Pfizer and Moderna. If we end up getting that AZ shipment as well within the next few weeks those should probably be used for 2nd doses.

Moderna is supposed to be giving us another 6.5-8.5ish doses after that until the end of June. With Pfizer ramping up in June and Moderna seemingly ramping up and giving us more consistent supply... Yeah, supply issues are gonezo. It'll be mostly about getting needles in arms as fast as humanly possible.

do we have enough data to have an appreciation for the relative efficacy of the different vaccines?

I would kind of expect Israel to have more 'vaccine results' cause Pfizer is I believe a superior product, but unsure if that is borne out?

Fucking Preston!
WRONG!

Had a day off so I went to wait in line at a popup with Mrs. Preston's siblings since they're in a hotspot (and we wanted to go to support since they were skeptical). It was pretty sadly not that busy. Mrs. Preston and I took a stab and asked if there was any chance we could get a needle. They didn't really hesitate but told me not to tell anyone. So here I am on Forumice telling people.

TLDR: We're Pfizer'd up
