OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

I'm generally okay with giving people with varying opinions a platform to discuss ideas. That used to be a strength, not a weakness of the Joe Rogan show. But it's obviously irresponsible to do this during a pandemic, when people are dying.

In fairness, he still has all kinds of people on including Sanjay Gupta, Steven Pinker, & Peter Attia in the last couple of months.
Didnt he have Sanjay on to berate him the entire time about vaccines being bad and ivermectin being good? Idk who the other two are but it would be nice to let an actual infectious disease doctor or virologist speak like he did with Osterholm back in the day. There are literally thousands and they all share very similar beliefs because the science is obviously sound. But he doesn't want those guys on anymore because he got sucked into the conspiracy theories.

When it comes to this stuff, it's probably best to not have a dude with rare 1 out of 1000 hot takes. Him and his listeners don't know any better but to listen and believe every word the dude says because they're simply not educated enough to disagree with the science; he can say anything he wants and people will believe it because they don't know any better and if Joe Rogan has him on, that means we should trust him. It's far more dangerous than having a guy with contrarian philosophical opinions or something where most people actually have the capacity to disagree.

Sir, most of the monoclonal antibodies don't work against omicron. At all. There is very sound data and research on this. All publicly available. But nope, let's fire off misinformation on a grand stage to millions of people because no one is bright enough to question it.

This is a lie obviously.

Lmao at Rogan falling for this

Oh my god they're both so fucking stupid. It's fucking tragic that this guy can get on and lie aggressively without anyone countering. It's sooooooooooooooooooooo easy to counter him.

I need a new episode of John Krasinski's boring only good news online show.

Not to watch, because it's horrible, but just to be there for my comfort of knowing there is some good news around somewhere.
There's plenty of good news out there. It all depends on your criteria.

ICU admissions finally showing up.

The following is what it looked like last week re: vax status. Will be interesting to see how this evolves, because this was largely (pretty much entirely?) Delta. As we know, vax protection is not quite as robust under Omciron.

CAVEAT ALERT: Our oldest, most vulnerable are mostly all fully vaccinated. Our youngest, healthiest are the least vaccinated. So this metric will ALWAYS understate VE vs severe cases. Age adjusted data is needed to accurately estimate it.

I will say, for a guy who wanted to get married and have kids a long time ago, the only silver lining of not being there yet is that I think this is an absolute horrible time in the world's history to be a kid (the social, educational, and mental impacts of this shit on a child is code red disaster level stuff for the future), and also a terrible time to be a parent (other than of infants who aren't out there yet, and who get much more parent time than otherwise thanks to lockdowns and move to WFH).
We actually feel like it's been a great time to be a parent. Lots and lots of family time.

You're brave. I showed restraint for once by not posting that and potentially ruining peoples days!

Have to remember South Africa barely passed their peak in cases from the delta wave. That helped make this wave milder! We're waaaaaay beyond our peak in cases and they're only just now leaking into older age groups. The hospitals never stood a chance.
