OT: Health and Nutrition

Because I fucking hate putting together all the goddam components that it takes to make fried rice the way I like it. It  was the one thing I was willing to cut corners on. Pretty much everything else I cook is stoopid healthy. And I dig it.

These products may be the most game changing, revolutionary advancements in modern history. Lots more work needs to be done in turning these thousands of anecdotes into evidence, but there have been very few observable downsides so far. With potentially far more upside than just weight loss and appetite suppression.

Very underrated and the stigma needs to go away. These are saving lives for some and could be lengthening lives for others too.

Yep. I find it a bit funny that society at large is so fixated on mediocre technology mislabeled as "AI" while this, which has the legit opportunity to revolutionize how actual humans live actual human lives, is kind of slept on as a drug for diabetics and fat people.

The results just from weight loss are fucking obscene. Obesity is the #1 killer. Not seed oils. Not food dyes. Not artificial sweeteners. Not pasteurized milk. Obesity. And this shit kicks obesity's ass. How is this not more celebrated?

Not to mention the intriguing emerging evidence on addiction, ocd, and even some weaker links (for now) to anxiety. I don't recall a single intervention in my lifetime that compares to this and can save people's lives at such a wide scale.

It opens up the possibility of dopamine reward imbalances in the brain to be diagnosed and medicated out. Basically any life altering bad habit you can think of (gambling, alcoholism, cigarette smoking, problematic porn or gaming, etc, etc) has an aspect of it influenced by the brain's relationship with dopamine release. Imagine fucking up a few parlays, realizing you lost the rent and have a problem and having that shit medicated out with a 3-6 month run of wegovy?

Does it just remove dopamine rewards for everything, including good things?

Cuz that would get us on our way to soma coma zombieland.

I'm almost certain that there's gonna end up being a lot of negative effects especially longterm.
Always possible but these have been taken and studied for decades and nothing major so far, so that's just a guess. There's long-term cardiovascular safety data, cancer risk data, and continued long-term surveillance and nothing major stands out (yet ).

Plus we already know the long-term risks of obesity and their life expectancy so this is almost certainly gonna be the lesser evil.

Based on what?

1. The ghastly empty look of people who take it
2. Just basic skepticism that something that seems to have such a strong effect on so many things would end up only being positive effects.

Revenge of the fatties! Now they’re gonna live longer and not feel the need to trade options?

Oh well, I had a good run as a skinny dude

There's some concern points for sure regarding bone and muscle health with long term use, and it fucks about with hormones in a way that might end up needing follow up hormonal treatments similar to how body builders use fertility drugs after heavy cycles. But most of the early data is suggesting that the biggest concern points on 6-12 months of usage (which is honestly all that most people need to address whatever issue it's good for) is the hormonal issues putting people on track to regain some or most of the weight.

There's also a growing body of evidence that this entire class of drug does a lot of work to reduce major cardiovascular issues, brain degeneration issues, etc. Even if these early iterations end up being learning points, the class of drugs itself has legit wonder drug possibilities.

All that's proven is that it removes excess reward response to food. Some preliminary studies and anecdotes show that yeah it can reduce dopamine rewards for other things too, but that's early and isn't true for everyone.

Plus this use case is meant to treat obesity which is largely a mental health disease. They could probably benefit from being a zombie.
