OT: MLB Thread

Thank you Dr Freud.

They did once but even then I used to call them chokers and never had faith in them. This nostalgia that they were a great organization is hilarious. It was only after I divorced them that I realized I was a battered spouse and that my relationship with that team was abusive.

And yet you refuse to see that your relationship with the Habs is exactly the same. They have you on a leash and they give you nothing anymore. Haven't for decades now.

They don't sell off all stars not try to compete threaten to move not make playoffs in 23 years etc

When the Canadiens do all that at the same time, then talk to me.

They try to compete, but not too hard. And their tolerance for not winning Cups seems to get higher every year, just like their ticket prices.

Yanks hand Jays their second loss in a row and retake a 1.5 game lead in the AL East.

I guess Jays fans will now suddenly realize that it's only the middle of August and that there's a lot of baseball left to be played.

Yep. You should realize it too though. Lots of time for Jays to take back first place

NYTIMES: Baseball Fever Grows in Montreal With Hope of a New Team

Mark Routtenberg, a Montreal businessman and a minority owner from 1990 until 1999, was a dissenting voice during that decline. He said the problem was ownership, not the fans. He argued, unsuccessfully, that the team should borrow money to pay the good players, rather than send them elsewhere, and in turn, fans would go to games. He was overruled.
“I would sit in meetings, and they would talk about how we had the most wins per dollar spent on payroll,” he said. “I would say, ‘What good is that?’ Isn’t the goal to win a World Series?’ ”
