OT: MLB Thread

you know how much coin does deadline deals printed for Rogers? every game a sellout, massive tv ratings and merch sales through the roof.

He had a good 2 months in 6 years, nothing to write home about. He gutted the system and went all in and it almost worked. He had pros and cons in his trades, but he left the team with no minor league system and hardly any SP. The biggest thing is their farm system is ranked bottom 5 right now in all of MLB. I don't even think they have 1 top 50 prospect anymore. Could any other GM have done better? Most likely in my opinion, so I don't think it's a huge loss for Toronto. Apparently Shapiro was really pissed how AA gutted the farm and went all in and if it didn't work they'd have to increase payroll quite a bit to fill in the pieces. Which, they will most likely need to add 2 high priced starters this offseason and a BP arm.

That strategy eventually worked for Dave Dombrowski, multiple times, just sayin...

AA didn't gut the team. The only deal I hated form the start was giving up Thor and D'Arnaud for an aging knuckler. He bought Dickey too high.

I am actually curious what the gains were.

10 million? 100k? 50 million? 7 dollars?
25000 additional tickets per game at 50 a pop average.

Plus 6 playoff gates

Plus concession

Plus merch

Plus increased ratings.

They made a killing

This is what Toronto sports franchises do: they implode. AA made those trades because he was desperate. Winning a WS was the only way he could save his job and he knew it. He also knew that if his gamble didn't pay off he was dead but he'd have been dead anyway if he'd done nothing. Knowing he had nothing to lose is what spurred him to make those deals. But he also probably knew that he was toast as soon as the Royals popped the champagne corks after game 6.

You of all people should applaud him. Isn't this what you want our GM to do...go for it

Either way, they will hire a new GM. I really don't think AA was irreplaceable at all. Shapiro >>>>> Beeston so no matter what they will be ahead of the game and especially if they get rid of Gibbons.

regular season. yes. they probably charged a nice playoff premium.
More importantly, Jays get to boost ad rates for next season.

that might be the case, but who knows what will happen now that the Greek is gone, that Price likely leaves too
