OT: MLB Thread

We talk about the last Cup win in '93 with sadness and somewhat shame it's been that long. You guys are going to treat the 50th year since your 1967 Cup win with a big bash and celebration as if the event in '67 gets better with age.

You couldn't even let the 40th anniversary go by without marking the feat.

... It's our 100th anniversary of being a team. Not sure why we wouldn't have a celebration. That's being a tad unreasonable.

No, the 100th is special and should be celebrated... no issue there.

However I am sure there will be a tie in with 1967 at some point if they did one for the 40th, and is that really a good thing? If the Habs have a party in 2018 to celebrate 25 years since we last won the Cup I would wonder where their priorities are. I'm even getting embarrassed about the whole torch thing on opening night. It is great if you pass the torch on to future winners but each year you don't win you dilute the meaningfulness of it a little more.

Sportsnet's one redeeming quality, haha.

Yes, I must say I have watched the Misplays of the Month quite frequently the past few months. The clips themselves are funny enough but she adds something extra inviting as host that her counterpart on TSN, Darren Dutchyshen, does not do.

It's not the 100th anniversary of being a team. It's 50 years of being a team followed by 50 years of being the punchline to a joke about a lousy team.

I remember making fun of Leafs drought back in 93 (26 years). We're almost 25 years away from our last cup. #sameshit

FWIW - rumors making the rounds Stevie Bronfman has purchased a large plot of land in the Peel Basin via his investment business Claridge presently run by former Habs President Pierre Boivin....

Maybe I missed where all the parking is in that pic? definitely not enough land for thousands of spots or a massive lot attached to the stadium. I wish this was happening where blue bonnets used to be, big chunk of land, metro, right off decarie, and they can build a great entertainment area all around it.

There won't be a stadium in either spot. Baby Bronfman won't put out the 1 billion to build it. He is just squatting on the land at this point.

Since when is Claridge his business? Did his old man give it to him for Xmas? When I was in school and working security part time Claridge was my contract. I did mobile patrol for the offices in the old Windsor Hotel building on Peel Street as well as the homes of all the mooky-mooks (Charles Bronfman, Senator Leo Kolber, Paul Desmarais, etc.) At that time, Stephen (who lived in a bachelor pad around the corner from Station 25 near St. Marc Street, was known as the family screw up. A coked-up party boy who flamed out in a series of do-nothing jobs for various companies owned by his dad. I guess he finally grew up.

The old Blue Bonnets site is plenty big enough but at the end of the day it isn't downtown. Sure, it's more centrally located than the Big O but traffic on Decarie is already a nightmare and the only "entertainment" nearby is the Orange Julep and the Sexe D'Or strip club which managed to achieve the impossible earlier this year (impossible for Montreal anyway) by losing its licence over allegations of prostitution.

If MLB is going to give Montreal another franchise the new owners HAVE to get it right. They're only going to get one shot at this. Ergo the new stadium MUST be downtown. That's the only location you can succeed in.

The bridge above her nose is almost too big, makes her look like she has FAE.

by the time the Expos get a team, parking will be obsolete. A fleet of self driving Tesla buses will drop everyone off in perfect harmony.
