OT: MLB Thread

As mentioned before, I won tickets to the game in Atlanta where the Jays won their 1st WS title. Before leaving for the trip from Vancouver the ticket sponsor wanted a photo from me and my friend (also an ex-Montrealer) wearing a Jays cap. I basically said I don't think so. This caused some concern from the sponsor who asked why I wasn't so enthused about Jays and I explained the whole Montreal - Toronto thing to him. I did say I would reluctantly cheer for the Jays because they were playing Atlanta, a team loathed by most Expos fans back in the day.

I can't wait for the Jays to be eliminated. At this point I avoid the first 15-minutes of TSN Sports Centre while they go on and on about the Jays run and then branch off to another Auston Matthews story. Besides... an Indians - Cubs WS seems only fitting. Can the Cubs finally break their losing streak and imagine the Indians winning after years of being made fun of? Plus them winning after the Cavaliers just won the NBA title would be something else.

THIS. This right here.

Happ, Estrada, Sanchez, Stroman, Liriano will all be back as a starting rotation.

Osuna and Biagini will be back in the pen.

Donaldson, Tulo, Travis, and Martin will all be back.

They are apparently going to open the vault for Edwin.

I could see them being competitive for a while yet.

Not really, Martin and Tulo are declining super fast. I don't expect Happ/Estrada to be as good next year. Yanks have 4 top 50 prospects, and have a lot of IFAs not even ranked yet. Boston will have Moncada (top prospect in all of baseball) next year and will most likely add a top of the rotation starter. Blue Jays have jack shit lol. Martn/Tulo/EE will end up costing the Jays 65 MILLION. They have a really bleak future, I'm sorry to break your bubble. I think next year it's Boston/Baltimore/Yanks top 3 (assuming yanks sign a couple of free agents otherwise they might wait another year for their rebuild). The future of that division is Boston and NY now that the yanks have retooled with high end prospects.

The Yanks have a bright future, but 4 top prospects aren't making an impact next year. Its gonna take time.

Moncada is good, but doesn't replace Ortiz.

People said the same thing about Estrada last year... oh 2015 was a fluke, Estrada won't be as good in 2016. He was better.

I think the Jays still have a couple more years of competitive baseball before they rebuild.

Pretty disappointing, was a fun season though.

The people relieved that they're out because Sportsnet talks about them too much... they'll just focus on Matthews that much more now.

I will switch to RDS if that comes to pass, don't worry. I really don't need to know how Matthews ties his laces, or throws a towel to a trainer.

Jays will struggle next year

Baseball isn't hockey. You can rebuild really quick. You don't need top 5 picks for several years.

With that intact starting pitching staff they'll be fine.

I'll just do what Hab fans do: Talk about the last championship in 1993'.
Jays did not hit. They deserve to lose.

We talk about the last Cup win in '93 with sadness and somewhat shame it's been that long. You guys are going to treat the 50th year since your 1967 Cup win with a big bash and celebration as if the event in '67 gets better with age.

You couldn't even let the 40th anniversary go by without marking the feat.

Depends what the front office spends on, I'd expect the Jays to remain competitive next year. They lose EE, JB, and Saunders, but as long as they can replace them with some talent, the rotation should be able to hold out.

The Jays weren't good enough this year. The bats slumped down the stretch, and obviously you could see that in the series against Cleveland.

NY is still a bit away from challenging - Sanchez isn't going to hit 60 HR for them next year. Baltimore will likely fall back as well. Boston will still be strong. But as long as the Jays can bring in a few fresh bats to replace the guys leaving, they should stay in the wildcard race next year.
