OT: MLB Thread

I recall many people who threatened to renounce their fandom after the Subban trade.

I assume they're all safely back in the fold now.

The Rodney Dangerfield's of Chicago sports:

Here is how one ChiSox fan put the rivalry with the Cubs into perspective. In some ways, it's like how Habs fans have to endure Leafs fan's arrogance, even when they have nothing to be arrogant about.

"Here in New York, baseball fans ask me if the relationship between the Sox and Cubs is akin to the Mets and Yankees. I tell them it’s worse for the underdog in Chicago, because at least Mets fans understand why the Yankees get top billing, what with the 27 titles. The Cubs grew in popularity by failing, which makes it all the more aggravating."

People can go back to forgetting the White Sox again.

White Sox need to rebuild. They can flip Sale for 2 blue chip prospects and they have a couple of other pieces too. I would do that, clearly teams like the Dodgers/Cubs/Nationals/Red Sox and soon the Yanks, will have enough young talent to compete for years. The Blue Jays on the other hand, lol they missed their chance. I could see them not winning the WS for quite a long time.

I think we can all agree pitching is the most important element in baseball. The Jays have their entire rotation returning next season. It was as good as anyone's. They'll be fine. The payroll will be going up as well.

They won't win the division next year. EE , Jose among others are gone . Shappy will need to get creative in the winter , this home run or bust team has run its course. But he built Cleveland and is the right guy for the job here. We had too much luck last year with no season ending injuries and Happy winning 20 plus , some hiccup will come , it's baseball you can go from first to nothing the year after.

Do you honestly think they'll just go with Smoke at 1B if EE goes?
They're going to add more left handed bats and more contact hitters. Their offense could easily be better next season.

I think they land Votto next season for EE's replacement. He will get hitters in the off-season but he isn't going to blow his brains out . Plus with the age of Tulo Martin and others I see a major injury upcoming. With our farm system depleted it will be a challenge this summer.

We won't compete with Betts , Bogarts, Bradley, Moncada, Benintendi , etc...with their upside and youth, that line up is stacked.

They have one of the worst farms in all of MLB. Guerroro/Alford are not going to cut it for Votto. If they traded their top 3 or 4 prospects, which really are weak to begin with, along with let's say Travis or Pillar, or maybe a Sanchez/Stroman, I mean, I can't see it benefiting them. They don't have enough cheap high end talent to replenish whoever they lose.

They are done, they aren't rich enough to buy all their holes, and with their weak farm, aging expensive players, RM/Tulo (both are falling off a cliff) and Donaldson will cost the bank in 1-2 years if they resign him. If they were in the AL central they'd have a chance, but they aren't. I mean, their fans expect the Jays to get better and every other team to just stand still, they are delusional. It's the other teams that are getting better with their prospects and younger players. Their top 2 pitchers are 33/34 years old lol.

Boston hasn't even put out Devers and Moncada yet, plus they are going after a legit ace. Toronto is done, they lost their window and choked and Rogers is not giving them 175m. They haven't caught up with the Yanks/Red Sox in signing IFAs, and they are SOL now.

Now if Rogers wasn't so cheap and they signed Red/Cespedes + EE + Jansen , they'd have a legit shot at the WC next year, but I can't see Rogers bringing payroll to 175-180.

I've heard it will go to 175. But we'll see. Rogers is making so much $ off the Jays right now.

Roger's isn't cheap , plenty of teams won titles without top 3-5 payrolls . Problem is we have nothing on the cheap to buy us time to work with our aging big money core.

The idea to get Votto is to pick up 50-60 % of his salary without sacrificing a bunch of major prospects .Don't think teams will give up the moon for Votto whose contract takes him to his 40's. I think Stro will be the bait to get young positional youth under salary control. The development process is what has hurt this franchise for years , we can't draft positional players to save our life.

Don't get too excited. Once upon a time the White Sox threatened to move to Tampa just to leverage a new stadium to replace old Comiskey Park and it worked. Sternberg is currently trying to leverage a stadium deal in Tampa to replace the Trop (ironically the stadium that at one time was used as leverage for the Chisox) Montreal is an obvious place for him to threaten to move to but I think he may just be playing chicken with Tampa.
