OT: MLB Thread

As soon as Tampa-St. Pete decided to build a stadium every team looking to bend city hall over a barrel to get a new stadium used them as leverage. The Expos didn't because they knew that the city would have just said "bonne chance a Tampa"

If steinberg wants to move and not sell, the team would be run on the cheap, exact same model the expos followed. Trade players, constantly try to rebuild and see where it takes you. Trade players you can't resign and then start over and hope one year everyone clicks. That would be a complete disaster here. They need deep pocket owners. They are in a div with yanks/red sox/blue jays, lol .

Steinberg's was the gold standard of supermarkets in Montreal. Only separatists shopped at Provigo and the rest (Dominion, IGA and A&P) were second-rate.

I remember the one at Fairview Mall. They had a cashier and a bagger who put the food in paper bags (ahead of the times it seems since plastic bags eventually came out later, now are being banned and paper bags are back in style) then they put the bags of groceries in plastic totes, put them on a roller conveyor and pushed them down to the backroom. They gave you a ticket like coat-check and they kept your groceries until you were ready to leave the mall. You would then drive up to the storage room, give them the ticket and they put your bags of food in the back of the car. My Dad loved that especially in the winter.

We probably passed each other in the aisles. I lived in Valois back in the day and went to that Steinberg outlet many times with my parents. I remember the rollers and ticket system at several of their stores.

Steinberg's went bankrupt in 92 and was sold off to Provigo, IGA and Metro. A lot of infighting among the family heirs.

Lol ya, I meant Sternberg , but either way, I want a rich owner that wants the expos. The rays while competitive for some years, also had Friedman, and got lucky. Even CLE had a 130m+ payroll this year. You need big money to win.
