OT: MLB Thread

While true it shows the vileness of the baseball media.

Was listening to ESPN radio yesterday: things will change in the next few years....Bond and Clemens will probably get into HOF in their 9th-10th year of eligibility

Clemens juicing is no different than Denis Eckersley using sweat to get more effect on his throws before almost every pitch...that's cheating, and maybe even worse than juicing.

Go watch the videos....his pre-throw routine to wipe his forehead...after he retired, lots of analyst starting dissecting this

These juicers will get in for a couple of reasons. One, because once you allow a scumbag enabler like Bud Selig into the HOF you're really telling the world that you don't give a $hit about anything anymore. But mostly they're going to get in because starting next season all votes will be public so any BBWAA member who casts a ballot is going to have to explain and justify their selections and omissions. They won't be able to hide in the shadows and not vote for a consensus first ballot Hall of Famer like 2 or 3 voters did last year with Ken Griffey Jr. If you're one of those voters who's going to try and deny a player his accolades simply because he once told you to go fcuk yourself when you were a beat reporter you're going to have to do it in the clear light of day from now on.

Pudge was a huge steroid guy.

1) None of Pudge, Bonds, and Clemens ever failed a test.

2) Pudge lost 30 lbs in the off-season, the same year that MLB first introduced drug testing.

3) Canseco said in his 2005 book that he did Steroids with Pudge. Now some may say that Canseco doesn't have the best character. But look at Clemens and Bonds. Where does that info come from. With Bonds it was the guy who sold him the drugs as well as an ex-baby mama. Literally the only proof we have on Bonds is his drug dealer, and his ex. On Clemens it was a disgraced former trainer. Now I believe all three used drugs, but here is my point... if writers are voting for Pudge saying "we have no proof, he never failed tests, its just Canseco's word against his"; well the fact is that the allegations on Pudge are really no different than Bonds and Clemens.

Joshua Kushner, Jared Kushner's brother, has agreed to buy the Florida Marlins from everyone's favorite owner here.

Nice deal for Loria. Paid $160M. Got a $600M stadium for free courtesy of Miami-Dade taxpayers. Sells team for $1.6B.

10 bagger. Plus got a World Series out of it.

Loria, the scam artist.

BTW, did anyone ever find out what Samson's specific ideas were re running a team or why Loria is never available that day in May?

He's a great businessman. Should have run for POTUS. But he does lack celebrity status.

One of the big inflators is MLB Advanced Media (which each owner owns a stake in)

That's really raised values of teams.

ESPN bought a minority stake in MLBAM last year for a billion dollars. (Now 1/30th of what remains of MLBAM after ESPN's purchase isn't worth a billion, but it adds maybe 100-200M on that asking price). So does the sweetheart stadium deal. And the inflation of pro sports franchises on the last 15 years.

I don't feel bad for Marlins fans - all 10 of them - as they initially embraced him. When we did, we did not know what a con man he was as most most of us didn't follow art dealing closely.

I will also be pleased I was the first to denounce him on baseballboards.com. I even beat Ron Reusch to the punch.

Does Melnick still defend the Siths?

I had forgotten that Jonah Keri used to post there but now I know why his name seemed vaguely familiar to me the first time I saw him on television. I remember Melnick also posted there (had some really good inside stuff from his days covering the Expos beat) but was driven away by trolls who kept trying to say that he wasn't the real Melnick.

Also because his nose was coming out Loria's mouth.

It's early, but looks like the Jay's may be shit this year.

Thank God, maybe it will spare us the abortion that is montrealers cheering for a Toronto based team

As expected , Jays had 2 years of lights out pitching that was unsustainable . Overachievers like Happ dont become aces at 33 , they had 7 pitchers start last year and no major injuries.

Hitters went nuts , bullpen guys like Grilli , Benoit, etc...went nuts in their twilight years .

They blew their load , emptied their farm system and are now left with an aging core .

Time to do the reverse of AA blow up the vets for a restart .
