OT: MLB Thread

That is big but the big owe is dilapidated, where would they play?

It would be the Big Owe for sure, it's still suitable as a temporary facility.

They do accommodate pre season games the last four years

Like the article says, people can afford half season tickets far easier than full season. It would also lead to a permanent relocation if Montreal makes them far more than Tampa.

The Canadian dollar at 75 cents US almost assures that is not a possibility

Revenue sharing has actually allowed a small market like Oakland be profitable to the point that they have zero incentive to build a new ball park.

I believe I read an article in that Oakland cashed in 34 million due to revenue sharing.

The difference between the US and CDN dollar although substantial would not hinder a market like Montreal from being profitable due to the revenue sharing system.

Put a stadium downtown with a mediocre team and Montreal would be a middle of the pack team attendance wise.

Put a stadium downtown with a competitive team and Montreal will be in the top half of the league.

I was lived through the Expos ups and downs the last ten years they were around and I can tell you that alot of the attendance woes were due to a poor product, lock out year when the Expos where on their way to the playoffs the stadium was full.

But in this day and age who knows, MLB has taken a back seat to the NFL and NBA in terms of popularity

I guess they need an Oakland type bottom of the barrel payroll to even have a shot

NM. Pointe St. Charles? Really?

The south west part of Montreal is really on the up with Griffintown and St-Henri becoming very trendy, alot of condos, restaurant, shops etc...

That part of the city has gone through a huge change.

I'm sure the Pointe is on the verge of going through a similar gentrification

The point habsy made was if Montreal brought in more money than Tampa they would get full ownership of the team.

I simply stated that the Canadian dollar at 75 cents US pretty much makes this task impossible.

What you are talking about is neither here nor there because Tampa receives that revenue sharing as well.

They will charge more for tickets in Montreal and get away with it, because of the novelty.

Let's see how long that lasts for.

Three seasons max in my opinion. Remember, this is a city that won't support a losing als team for 9 home games. Couple of years of the Ex-Rays losing and the novelty will be gone.

They definitely can't blow this if they get to keep the team. It will be the last chance for a major pro team other than the Habs.
