At the end of the day, "viable option" means very little without someone willing to make a brash, big money move on a stadium. See Los Angeles and the NFL.
I'm afraid Montreal is a "viable option" for disgruntled owners in other cities wanting to extract more goodies from their local government.
As was Washington for some 20 +years

But Washington built a stadium.

What. You don't have faith in the mayor?

He looks like he's eaten a lot of stadium grub. Just saying.
But Washington built a stadium.
I just like the fact Mtl finally has a Mayor like Drapeau, capable of "dreaming BIG".
Whether Codere can "sell that dream" to someone with actual currency remains to be seen - but if he does succeed in doing so, he'll have accomplished more than any politician in that province closing in on 50-yrs - been too long...
He should go for Nba or NFL
Jays lose, Yankees win. .5 separates them
It is all a mind ****. Unless the team wants to be a parasite on MLB corporate welfare, it won't work on a .75c dollar.
NBA??? Why the hell would anyone want an NBA team? An NBA team would have to compete directly with the Habs. NOBODY in Montreal is going to watch basketball when there's a hockey game on. And why would they? An NBA game is 47 minutes of tedium and 1 minute of action. And any Montreal-based NBA team would inevitably be undersized.
They play each other 7 times until the end of the season.
