OT: Movies/TV Shows

I read the first 5 books after the series and got that vibe, that his world lasts forever and there is no real ending to it, just different generations.
First 3 books were amazing
Last 2 you could tell he had no idea how to wrap it up.

That said we already know how HotD ends.

If anything it will suffer from the opposite issue. GRRM is more involved so they will really drag it out.

Side note : people keep referencing season 8 being bad when season 7 was equally bad imo

Equally is a strong word. 8 was tragic. 7 was just normal levels of bad.

On the one hand, the entire Dance of the Dragons/House of the Dragon story has already been written, so the show won’t have to deal with an ending not having been written yet.

On the other hand, only the broad strokes of the story have been written by GRRM himself. The finer plot details and dialogue will have to be largely invented from scratch by the show’s screen-writers. And when GOT ran out of source material and had to start doing that is where they really started going off the rails.

The Boys is shooting in Toronto right now, my company is doing some work for the site.

I usually do onsite stuff, but we are too busy in the shop so I don't get to go, so my boss is taking his sons who are big fans.

I'm not a fanboy but it would have been cool to see some of the actors and maybe get a sneak at what's coming.
They were shooting the first day our guys were there so hopefully they are shooting the rest of the week.

some of the main cast were right in front of my bro at the Greta Van Fleet show. apparently there was an en masse trip to the bathrooms to get high, followed by hilarious dancing.

We should know early about that though. I also felt GoT changes from the source material were good. Eg. Arya and Tywin.
It was once they were really left alone it got bad.

strongly disagree: not even close
maybe i just blame season 7?

imo season 7 sets up everything that is wrong with season 8 and in both seasons they go for shock value and speed instead of good storytelling

problems with season 7
- they just quickly have arya kill the freys - this should have been huge - the red wedding was brutal and this should have been sweet sweet revenge
- euron greyjoy - ugh - just a waste of screen time (problem with both season 7 and 8)
- cersei is pregnant
- little fingers death - it had to be a big secret that sansa and arya were in on it - so poorly handled just for the sake of a shock
- and of course the dumbest shit ever - they needed all the main characters to go get a wight from beyond the wall
- which reminds me - good thing they all have Fast Travel Unlocked

i get why people hate season 8 more - but if they were to redo season 8 they would also have to redo season 7 to fix it
- for the record i have no issue with arya killing the night king, bran on the throne, or dany snapping - the issue is there was only the shock factor and not the storytelling factor to do those things - hell even jaime's redemption and back again arc could have been pulled off

this is still the best part of season 8

I'm going to be watching the last episode of S3 tonight.

Really fun show. I do wonder how long they can carry it on in an interesting way. Gotta kill Homelander will run out of steam at some point, especially since he's the most compelling character on the show (i.e., he's not dying unless it's in the final episode of the series, so the quest to kill him will necessarily lose its appeal if the show doesn't find some other angle for its A plot).

There's so many differences between the plot in the comics and what they're doing on Amazon that it's tough to get a read on where the plot might go in the show.

Not having read any of the comics, is that a good or bad thing?

I haven't read any of the comics to know. The show seems firmly focused on kill Homie and end the supes.

Haven't read them either, just familiar with the story arc. Watched a bunch of youtube videos, etc. In the comics Homelander ends up killed by Noir, who was actually a clone of Homelander (Noir is also who raped Butcher's wife in the comics fwiw) .

If I have to guess, they're going to use Homelander's son (who the show runners confirm will be significantly more powerful than Homelander) to end up doing the deed. Again if I'm guessing, I'd bet on Butcher and Alex making up at the end (Butcher sacrifice) and Alex killing Homelander with Butcher's belief in Alex changing how he looks at the existence of Supes.
