OT: Movies/TV Shows

Yeah so many great moments. The one with her dad trying to cut her off from the family finances was on last night. She ends up with a 75% bump to her allowance with a cutback to her mom. Funny stuff.
The best part is that I saw these all 30 years ago and barely remember them anymore, so it’s like watching a brand new series with 270 episodes that are awesome.

It's pretty crazy how much they could do essentially having only one place where all the action happened. There's some ungodly number of episodes where they don't even have a scene outside of the bar.

It’s an amazing premise. Allows all the action and people coming and going to realistically take place in one spot.

But not super uncommon for 70s and 80s comedies. All in the Family somehow took place almost entirely in Archie’s house with mainly interactions between four people. There’s Company spent probably 80% of its screen time in that small apartment. Family Ties almost entirely in the Keaton house (mainly the kitchen). Cosby - all in the house.

No one said they never leave but there are many episodes that take place fully at the bar, and even when they do have scenes outside it’s generally pretty limited. So great wherever they are. I saw a few episodes at Kelly’s family’s house when Woody was dating her. So funny. Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly Kelly.

As a kid, it's a straight up comedy. As one ages, it's a show about loneliness and all the funny things we do to avoid it.
I like that take. And yeah, as a kid I was just appreciating the silliness of the humor. But there’s so much more to it watching as an adult. It really is like watching two different shows.

They did a Cheers marathon over the weekend as a tribute to Kirstie, and I probably saw like 7 more episodes, to go along with the bunch I’d seen in previous weeks just randomly, and holy shit I honestly just didn’t remember how amazing a series it was. There’s literally no bad episodes. It totally holds up. The writing is amazing and all of the actors are fantastic. And Kirstie was legit hilarious, one of the best of the bunch.
As far as sitcoms go I only rank Seinfeld higher.
Cheers had fantastic character development. So many great, memorable characters.

I had an opposite reaction. When Cheers was in it's first run I watched it religiously every Thursday evening and loved it. Then when it ended I tried watching reruns and I found I couldn't stomach it anymore. It fell flat all of a sudden. Contrast that with MASH, which I also watched religiously in its first run and can never look away if I come across a rerun while channel surfing even today.

White Lotus very satisfying ending last night. No Spoilers but Coolidge had us laughing our assess off. Good performance again.
I loved the first season and this one. Still don't understand how this was created by a guy who was a contestant on Survivor.. I think the winner too.

I guess he does understand the "human condition", because although that show had some pretty far fetched concepts, it all seemed plausible and real.

Plus the tension in the last episode was so good.

Hated this season of White Lotus. Just a silly soap opera dressed up with high production values amid a beautiful setting.

Cheers was ok, but not in the top 5 or ten.

First of all, WKRP.
The last few weeks, on the same channel they show Cheers, WKRP comes on right after, and I've never really seen it so I just let it play in the background while I do other things, and it kinda sucks. Not sure the appeal. It's not in the stratosphere of a Cheers, and I can name 30 shows off the top of my head that I'd prefer to watch.
