OT: Movies/TV Shows

I'm telling you, watch the Gerard Butler movie, "Plane". Cliched? Yes. But fees like an old school film made years ago. He's actually really good in it and adds drama with action and good tension.

That lady's casting is probably the first major mistake they've made in the series so far. She's supposed to be this tough, evil-esque leader, but she doesn't sound the least bit menacing. Like, oh no the secretary's mad at us, what are you going to do, throw a tantrum and threaten to go to HR? Get the actress who played Tess to do her role, on the other hand? Tess looked menacing and the type of woman you wouldn't want to fuck with. Call up Sarah Clarke and see if she's available.

Beyond that, I don't mind her character. Sometimes you just need a simplistic, evil stereotypical bad guy.

The chemistry between Joel & Ellie is great.

Watching the show definitely makes me want to replay the game, but I end up working instead.

Not relevant to ep 4 spoiler, but just for the general series: I don't know how they're going to get everything in 9 episodes instead of 12. I'd feel much more comfortable if they had 12, or shit even 10, episodes.

There's one part in particular that I'm dying to see and I'd be extremely disappointed if they cut it short.

Video Game Spoiler me what part you want to see. I'm curious.

Season 2 is where it will get tricky imo. I just finished the second game.

I put game 1 on easy and just ran through it.

The show also doesn't appear to care about episode length so 9 episodes could be more like 10 or 11.

She is terrible...not believable for a second. Casting is definitely part of the problem. The pacing and writing in this episode was a bit off. Very short episode.

I am sure this follows the game, but dropping into this storyline out of nowhere felt a bit incoherent. As a viewer of the show only, it was confusing and sort of felt like we missed something in previous episodes. Again, could be an issue with trying to nail this down in 9 episodes.....with some running in the 45 min. range.

I'm not sure the casting would have helped much but I'm guessing they get through pittsbu... Kansas next episode anyway

I guess technically it's two-fold, in a way. Right when they reach the university of Colorado & Joel nearly dies, but what I'm really looking forward to is when Ellie's in charge for a little bit. That part of the game is far & away the best as far as I'm concerned.

The episode could have been fleshed out a little more, especially with the introduction of new characters, but

The game goes to Pittsburgh instead of Kansas City and virtually the same thing happens: A "wounded" civilian is begging for help, Joel speeds through him & the upcoming ambush, crashes into a store, gunfight ensues. We don't learn anything about the people in the city beyond a couple of diaries that are left by the game to inform the players. We just know that they ambush everyone that comes into their city and are just hardline & violent.

I'm still only one episode in, so I don't want to see who you guys are referring to yet. But if it's the young girl (who I believe played the puny princess of the north in GOT), she's terrible for this part. So weird looking that it's distracting. I would've much rather the girl playing his daughter had played this role instead. She was fantastic.

It isn't. It wasn't until episode 4 that I got on board with her as Ellie.
 
yeah this show needs to get better and fast.

and it freakin kills me that he keeps leaving weapons behind.

Nah. First 4 episodes have been better than anything on TV for quite some time

they had supplies in the truck

But they are trying to recreate the value of weapons and bullets from the game

they left so much behind at that compound it was silly. Then after they killed the guys in this episode they left everything on the truck that was right there and didn't even pick up the dead guys' guns. Hell he even dropped his long gun and just continued with a pistol.

and yeah its obvious why theyre doing it but that just makes it dumber. At least try to justify it instead of just leaving the stuff there.
 
Let's just kill the only doctor, cuz she is a bad ass. Ok. Good leadership. Then her team show her a very large buried something stirring and she's like - later! That can wait! Let's deal with that one later, but first, what I want out of each and every one of you is a hard-target search of every gas station, residence, warehouse, farmhouse, henhouse, outhouse and doghouse (and several forty plus high rise apartment buidlings) in the area. Clunky episode. I agree with Zeke.

They could definitely do a better job with that.

The only justification is that at this point Joel is just dropping off the cargo and returning.
