Yeah Emma Thompson is massively under appreciated for how incredible she is….across the board. Brilliant actress, smart woman, gorgeous at a every age.

Yeah, similar age at the time, but didn't really start watching it until it was midway through the series, so like maybe 10 years old. I think Shelly was gone when I'd started watching, but it was already in reruns so I'd see both Shelly and Kirstie episodes out of order. I always thought, even as a kid, and even now, that Shelly was a nerd, and an unattractive one at that. She was good for that part, the contra to Sam, as the intellectual elitist, and she sort of ushered the way in for Frasier's character since they were so similar. But the show got way better once Kirstie replaced her and then Frasier had his counterpart in Lilith. Honestly a home run of a series with perfect casting all throughout.
