OT: Movies/TV Shows

Yes all the crime of the week type shows suck.
At least SWAT had a cool theme intro:

"Realistic" anthology police drama series - Police Story (not to confused with the Jackie Chan "police story" franchise). Following episode involving a SWAT team didn't have anything to do with the later series (though two of the actors in the episode did star much later in another TV series - Airwolf):

Solid theme by Jerry Goldsmith (heh, which you didn't hear at the beginning of the show but at the end):

Have you seen the new X-Men 97 series yet?

I haven’t.

I loved X-Men comics in that era, collected Wolverine….but was just a bit old for the X-Men show when it came out originally, so missed it.

Kinda the same with Batman The Animated Series, even tho I had stoner buddies who loved it, I wasn’t into it when it first aired….but can appreciate it now for what it was.

I did pick up a bunch of the DC animated flicks when they were on sale recently….Superman: Red Sun, Batman: Doom Comes to Gotham, Long Halloween, and Death In the Family…..and then re-purchased Dark Knight Returns & Year One on digital.

I’m still a sucker for those.

Ive heard nothing but good things about X-Men 97, for me, i wasnt too interested in X-Men as a kid, and my understanding that this show gravitates to more of the die hard X-Men fan, and really, it should, so i'm not jumping at it yet.

I also heard Seth Rogan has taken charge of remaking Darkwing Duck, in some fashion, to which i say, no notes, yes.

Amazing the almost dichotomy between the "DCU" and "DCAU". One is (imho) largely dreck (outside from the Nolan films); while the other (DCAU) has put out some pretty solid stuff.

X-Men 97 is great so far. Absolutely recommend.
I wasn't loving the first few episodes, sort of just the same old recycling of super dated stories. And I'm not digging the total revival of the old animation 25 years later, which wasn't great to begin with back in the 90s. And the same voice actors are kinda yuck (the girl who does Rogue especially). There were a few moments, but overall meh. Episode 4 was total trash, unless there are actually any Mojo fans out there.

But episode 5 was shockingly good. I was legit wowed, so now I'm anxious to see what follows.

If you're watching the DC animated movies now, you definitely weren't too old to watch the X-Men cartoon back then.

The first few waves of the DC movies were amazing. But I don't think the latest waves have been very good at all. Again with the recycled stories, second rate animation, and just overall underwhelming.

Yeah it’s crazy…I’d damn near take the DCAU over the Marvel universe, especially when it comes to rewatchability. …even something like ‘Gotham by Gaslight’ I enjoyed way more than 95% of Marvel movies.

I remember the ABC promos for SWAT.

"When you have a problem, you call the police. When the police have a problem, they call SWAT!"

Have you watched Sherlock?
You mean Elementary? And yeah that was a good show for a procedural. Also, X-Files and Fringe were "cop shows" and even Mindhunter.

I guess the point is that cookie cutter procedural cop shows are bad, written for the lowest common denominator, and well are Cop propaganda and might do more harm than good. Shows like CSI, NCSI, Blue Bloods, 911, New Law & Order, Criminal Minds, Chicago PD, The Rookie, etc.

The ones that aren't are the shows that show the mental toll and moral ambiguity of policing and how it effects the person. Those are rare though......

Sherlock, with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman was an instant classic but far too sophisticated for most American audiences. Elementary with Lucy Liu, was on CBS and was a typical US network show. Tame and easy to digest.
