OT: Movies/TV Shows

“Red Lights” (2012) is one of the most fascinating dogshit movies I’ve watched this decade….Sigourney Weaver, DeNiro, Cillian Murphy, Toby Jones, Elizabeth Olsen.

….its riveting how bad it is. Not remotely entertaining, not even in a “it’s so bad it’s good way”…..it’s just shocking it exists.
Sounds a lot like Ishtar.

Watched the trailer and definitely got the impression it could be really good….happy for Dasalchian too, he’s had some great bit part roles but he was long overdue for a juicy part like this.

The more I think about it the more annoyed I am at it….cause the first I dunno, 15-20 mins are good enough that it kinda made me think I’d stumbled on a hidden gem. DeNiro in the role of Simon Silver seems like amazing casting, and Sigourney is great early on….and then it just goes off the rails in astonishing fashion.

The premise is even kinda interesting if it had maybe been done by M Night or something….but goddamn, whoever directed it turned it into a real piece of trash.

Looks damn fun.

I have to say, I like Jackman’s Wolverine better than the Wolverine in the comics. That’s kinda impossible to do. I like Bale’s Bruce as much as the Bruce in the comics, but it’s impossible to have a Batman on film as good as the Batman in the comics. Apart from those two, the comic depictions of characters always beat the movie portrayals, especially all the Spidey attempts.

Okay, finished Ripley. It's quite good. Of course, Scott is really good. It's a pretty subtle role, mind you. Not like Moriarty, who is so dynamic and fun.

I probably have to rewatch The Talented Mr. Ripley, but I don't recall loving it and it seems to me that the story works a lot better in a longer format.

Bill Simmons podcast “The Rewatchables” had an episode dedicated to “The Talented Mr Ripley” which was fantastic.

Also Phillip Seymour Hoffman is pretty amazing in the flick, so prob worth revisiting just for that alone

Scott was WAY too old for the part though. But overall pretty good series. Liked the Damon movie better (One of my modern day favs).

yeah Damon is naturally creepy.

his first big break was as the sniveling asswipe in School Ties and he was great.

Affleck is also a natural asshole and his best roles by far are him being an epic asshole.
