OT: Movies/TV Shows

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

It was inevitable that Lane would end it, i kinda hoped that his deception would go on till next season.

Although I absolutely loved the scene where the Jag wouldn't start for him, basically summed his character where very little went right for him.

When that happened I actually thought that he was going to get a second wind and do the honourable thing. Unfortunately he was such a textbook case of egoism that he couldn't bear the failure.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Official trailer for "Django Unchained" dropped today, and it looks fantastic.....Tarantino and Westerns look like a hell of a combo.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Watched the season finale of Game of Thrones, a couple of nights ago. Brilliant show, can't believe I have to wait so long until the next season. Still have a bunch of shows to watch that I missed out on...which should I watch first?

The Wire
Mad Men
Sherlock Holmes
Dexter

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

cant go wrong with Wire or Dexter from that list

have watched all of GOT but just cant follow some of the storylines. have no idea whats the story with the lady with the red hair and the guy who choked her out in the finale. Also the 2 kids of the beheaded guy from S1, there both just been on the run right?

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

^You should probably put the bong down when you watch tv.
Haha, seriously. I can't fathom how you could watch both seasons of the show and have that little idea about what's going on.

Still, I'll try my best to answer your questions Fitz. Highlight the following to get answers, if you're not up to date and don't want GOT spoilers, then don't highlight. The guy that was choking out the red haired woman, that was Stannis Baratheon. You know...the next oldest brother of the king that died in season 1, and the guy that thinks he's the rightful king and led a massive, awesome attack on the capital King's landing only to have his fleet blown up in an awesome massive green fireball and be attacked by last minute reinforcements. The red-haired chick is a foreign priest who's been in his ear about how he will be victorious and is her God's chosen one. As for the "two kids of the beheaded guy", his name was Eddard Stark he actually has six kids, so I'm not sure which two you're referring to. His bastard son Jon Snow is the one who's been captured by wildlings North of the wall. His two youngest sons Bran (the crippled one) and Rickon were captured when Winterfell was taken, but then managed to make their captors think they'd escaped before doubling back to Winterfell and hiding out in a tomb. Now they're currently on the run, but presumed dead by most since their captor (Theon Greyjoy) decided to kill a couple of other kids their age, burn them and pass them off as them in order to look like a hard man and less of an idiot. His oldest son Robb is styling himself "King in the North", and is currently south and at war with the Lannisters. Then there's his two daughters. The redhead (Sansa) is a captive of the Lannisters at King's Landing, while the younger (Arya) has been on the run and passing herself off as a boy.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Forget the series...I'm sure it's great but the books are fantastic. I've ripped through the first two in two and ahalf weeks and they are 800+ pages each. Can't put them down.

Let me ask you at the end of the 2nd last ep of s2, the little persons castle was under attack and it ended with him being injured. At the start of the finale he seen being treated to, so who won that whole battle? It looked his people were outnumbered but then in the finale Joffery was handing out gifts to his knights? So they ended protecting their castle even after Joffery ran away?

MORE SPOILERS BELOW SO DONT READ

Stannis (the brother of the former king, and the current Kings uncle....and the red priests 'lover') was about to defeat the Imp (and Joffery) when the Imp's father showed up -- Tywin -- the guy that was fighting Robb Stark....he showed up to save the say....

So the Imp, Tywin, Joffery one the battle.

Not current spoilers but if you are in the middle of watching the series do not read....

The red hair lady is basically a 'witch' with Stannis. She helps him kill Renly, etc. Stannis is the rightful heir to the throne....because Joffery is not King Roberts son....so his brother Stannis should be King.

The Stark's kids...I assume you mean Bran and Rickon.....

Bran/Rickon - are on the run....yes...they are boring
Robb - is fighting the war as the king in the north
Sansa - is in Kings Landing and was about to marry Joffery before he decided to marry Renlys former wife.
Arya - Is on the run as well....was the drink filler (or whatever) for Tywin ... the guy that won the battle at the end of season 2...even though it is thought he was heading out to fight Robb
Jon Snow - is fighting beyond the wall and has just been captured by the wildlings.

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

His bastard son Jon Snow is the one who's been captured by wildlings North of the wall.

But is Jon actually Ned's bastard?

Spoilers.....

While it hasn't been revealed yet, there are some pretty good theories that Jon is in fact the son of Lyanna Stark (Ned's Sister) and Rhaegar Targaryen. There is quite a bit of evidence that proves this.

-In the first book there are several flash backs with Ned remembering his sister's last moments and he finds her in "a room smelling of blood and roses"......."Promise me Ned" are Lyanna's last words. The theory is that Rhaegar didn't kidnap Lyanna but rather they fell in love and she died during childbirth. She asks Ned to protect Jon from Roberts hatred of the Targaryen's.

There is a lot more evidence here for anyone interested -

Re: OT: Recent Movies You've Seen

Watching this year's Academy Award for Best Documentary, Hell and Back Again:

http://www.movie2k.to/Hell-and-Back-Again-watch-movie-1173146.html

It follows an American Marine's transition back to civilian life and the difficulties he encounters as a result of trying to acclimate back to a non-military regime once his leg is shot up in Afghanistan. Interspersed with combat footage from his platoon's operations in Helmand Province, where one of his friends was killed on camera.

Worm already answered this, but just to explain further (again, highlight for spoilers): I can understand how you could be confused at the end of the big battle at King's Landing. The way the episode the week before had ended, it made it look like Tywin Lannister (Tyrion---the dwarf's father, and Joffrey's grandfather) was heading out to attack Robb Stark. They wrote it that way in both the movies and the books to make the end of the battle of King's Landing (also known as the Battle of Blackwater) more of a surprise. Basically, Tywin ended up abandoning his position and leaving his own lands open to attack to ensure that the capital wasn't taken, and that his grandson Joffrey didn't end up getting deposed (along with his daughter---the Queen---his son the dwarf and his two other grandkids getting killed). The other big surprise is that one of the other most powerful families in the series (the Tyrells) who'd previously been allied with Renly (Joffrey's "uncle" and Stannis's little brother) ended up joining up with the Lannisters and were part of Tywin Lannister's forces when he drove Stannis away from King's Landing. And to seal that alliance, Margery Tyrell (the brunette who used to be married to Renly) replaced Sansa Stark as Joffrey's bride to be. She'll be a major character in the show starting next season, and her family will play a big part in the overall story.

Oh, and Leo, I know the theories regarding Jon Snow's parentage, but I figure that mentioning it to someone who hasn't read the books and has only watched the first two seasons of GoT was jumping a bit ahead! And babe, the books are absolutely excellent. I don't know how much you know of what happens in the series beyond book #2, but if you've managed to avoid spoilers...book #3 will be very interesting indeed.
